If they had ignored seeing Melvin and family on sports coverage TV, they would have gone undetected -- at least until Melvin's mother died. So, if Roy was going to go after them, they stepped up the timetable.

Their arrogance led to their capture, imho.

I thought it arrogance, too. If they had just left Roy alone, nothing would have happened. It had been 20 years! McClellan was their weak link and his power went to his head. The other two had become wealthy and, on some level, regretted what they had done and move on. Roger hadn't. He was the same righteous bigot who was proud of his role in the bombings.
