Yup, we can bank/reserve books during Bingo, but they will not carry over to the next event. So early on it will probably be a good idea to hold on to the books, but later we may just want to throw them on any square possible.

eta: Hmmm, I'm rethinking this one. The books would be the same amount of points if we throw them on non-pattern areas of the card, and there's a chance we'll find a power square while we're at it. The worst thing that can happen is that we hit that Shark and have to wait for the next card to use the book. ~muses~

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Okay, so, if we finish a book before Bingo starts, we can't use it for Bingo, right?

If that's right, please let me know if I should finish Software (has C, B, M, N, R) and/or The Two-Thousand-Pound Goldfish (has B, O so far), or if I should wait and finish them while Bingo is happening.

Right :)

Either way is fine - I left some Travel Agent books free so we should be able to use up nearly every book no matter how many "leftovers" we have at the end. (I think that's what you're getting at, yes?)

That being said, if either one of those has a high page count it may be more pointsy if you finished it for Bingo. :)

Current word: NBRCBOM
Possible books for each letter (remembering that some overlap):

N - 10
B (2) - 13
R - 13
C - 12
O - 7
M - 15

Color Bonus 1: Green item on cover
Possible: 3

Color Bonus 2: Pink item on cover

Thanks for checking on that for me! I now know I have several books that will cover various squares on the first card. But I also am probably not going to finish my current book No Time like the Past before Wheel ends, but it looks like you have a bunch of books anyway and we can probably fit it into a square down the line in Bingo. Just let me know if you really need it for Wheel and I can try and push it today but I have a lot going on.

Happy Reading all! Go Pandas!!

Dinosaur-older book
Tornado or Hare-fast read
Lion-'setting' is a jungle or zoo
Mushroom-Forest

Do we need a strategy that allows us to pick more cards...not sure how many books our team averages per week...not sure how we manage with our varied reading rates...perhaps we need a target for switching cards based on our team rate? Thinking...thinking...

Eeep, I went in to my default mode which is (as you can guess) - do what you like! I'll do a better job of remembering that you like tasks going forward, sorry it has taken so long to get into my brain!

Tammie has some good ideas there :) Also, the center square seems to pop up in a lot of patterns, so it might be nice to have something to slot in there ;)

Kazen Tammie wrote: "Do we need a strategy that allows us to pick more cards...not sure how many books our team averages per week...not sure how we manage with our varied reading rates...perhaps we need a target for switching cards based on our team rate? Thinking...thinking... ."

I was thinking - the book length bonus points will probably have more of an effect than the 15 bonus points per card. So instead of cycling as soon as possible like in Wheel, it may be better to choose a middle of the road card that has a bonus we like :) And that way the less rapid readers can read one book at their pace while the fast people blow through two or three. ;)

In the same vein, it may be better not to bank... we don't gain that much from it! If we use that book on a non-pattern square we get the same number of points, as well as a chance to hit one of the power squares. And then if we choose a bonus that increases the power squares some how, they would be even easier or better to hit...

Hmm! Thinking thinking...

eta: And if we get a card we really like, we could go for the coverall bonus! Bwahaha! ~ahem~ Thinking...

Kazen A reminder!

Wheelathon ends roughly nine and a half hours from this post! Countdown clock here. After that will be a 12 hour break for us to reconcile the spreadsheets before Bingo starts.

If you finish a book during Wheel we can use it for Wheel. If you finish a book during Bingo we can use it for Bingo. But if you finish during the 12 hours between Wheel and Bingo your book falls into a literary black hole, not to be seen until the last event of WOBBLE. So consider yourself warned! I hear black holes bite. ;)

Thanks! I will definitely make sure I finish it during Bingo then and not in the "black hole" LOL

It also might be a stretch? but we could possible use it for the Dinosaur square - "No Time Like the Past" and all, beside they talk about Dinosaurs in the book at least twice so far. 8-) Just one idea..

It would count towards one card. Bonuses staying on all future cards would be very awesome but also very OP!^

But we can earn that reward as many times as we like. We could also use an Omni-bonus for it, but we can only do that once for each reward.

^overpowered in gamer speak - I'm watching people play videos games right now, hehe

Kazen The Wheelathon is over!

I'm going to go through the thread now and get the spreadsheet in order before Bingo starts, so don't be surprised to see a last spin or two (or three!).

Bingo starts roughly eight and a half hours from this post - check out the Bingo countdown here . If you finished a book before Wheel ended you can post it, but try not to finish any books during this in-between time. Books finished after Bingo starts count for Bingo.

Once the Wheel spreadsheet is squared away I'll post about goals and books and things and people can start claiming spots. :)

Kazen

The Wheelathon is over and we rocked it! We more than doubled the number of points we got in Olympics even though Wheel was only a week longer. Great job all!

And more good news - the number of books we read worked out perfectly for our word. It was fate! ;)

So now we can look ahead to Bingo. ~rubs hands together, grinning~

First - have a look at the Bingo Rules if you haven't yet. The super duper pared down basics are:

- We get a bingo card with tasks and pictures. The tasks are to be done as written, but we can find our own ways to connect the pictures to the books. If you can sell it we can most likely use it. Let that creativity shine!

- We can do any pattern we like, and can change patterns midway if we want. Each pattern has its own reward, as seen on the spreadsheet.

- Longer books get more points, but it's not a huge gain for the biggest books.

- There are three bonuses and a whammy on each bingo card. Bonuses get us more points, the whammy means we can't use that square's book until the next card.

- We can bank books if we like. We can also use books for squares not in the pattern, where they will earn the usual number of points.

That's the most important stuff but not everything so read through the rules for more details, especially about points and bonuses.

Shall we start with a middle-of-the-road pattern? Tree has a nice reward attached (increase 2x powersquares to 3x) and enough squares to keep us occupied for a few days, I think. :) Let's pull it up and see...
