Kazen Is anyone else a sports nut like me and watching the Olympics? I've been taking advantage of an app (eta: Japan only :/) that has all the event footage with no breaks and often no commentary - it's been awesome. The whitewater stuff is great to watch with all the soothing water sounds, and archery gets pretty exciting! And when the announcer (on site) calls out the arrow score he puts the Portuguese after the English. The dez ends up sounding like "Ten... yea!" Hehe.

I've also discovered the shooting, woah. I knew of clay pigeons, but I've never seen anyone shoot them... not exactly my thing. But I feel like a more rounded person for knowing those events exist. ~nodnod~

So yeah, not reading as much as usual. ;)

With my work schedule and new puppy to play with, I don't get to watch a lot but I have been following the swimming and the gymnastics which they show in prime time here. Most of the unusual events are on during the day 8-( so I miss them. My favorite of the summer games was always the Equestrian events but they hardly cover any of that here.

Maybe it's one of those endearing thing about you that he's rather have than "get". Like my aunt whose Deaf husband would pronounce -ed at the end of words and she didn't tell him because it was cute. "My adorable wife walks around shouting po...lo.. for no reason! How cute are Americans with their weirdness!" ;) ;) haha.

My favorite from my uncle was when he barricaded me in a storage unit while looking for campin gear: "Are you trap-ped?" Or when some electronic device wasn't working right, he would swear: "It is fuck-ked!" Hahaha. (though many Deaf people don't speak/speak much/speak clearly, Uncle Steve has a great, clear voice--which makes it so much funnier.) 2 of my g-parents were Deaf, and 4 of my mom's sibs married Deaf people, plus I studied ASL some and considered becoming an interpreter so I've been surrounded from a young age. In fact, my g-ma's deafness probably made me the reader I am today! I taught myself from the captioning on the tv when she lived with us when I was 3. :)

I did catch a bit of gymnastics which would have been my sport had we had more money for lessons. (I was a short, strong, fearless kid who like climbing and leaping off things. My mini-me niece is talking gym. The one who could do a pull up onto her changing table at 9 months old haha. You should see her running somersault, it's a thing of beauty!) I don't understand the scores any more though! Used to be 10 was good. Now there's 15.3??? And it's only an okay score? Wha...

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments And the winner is... *drumroll*... migraine. So I guess I get migraines now. Boooo. :(

Tori - This is terrifying to me!! I'm allergic to mold already and have had sinus issues along with all of this. Plus, I opened a tub of wall spackle and ended up with a face full of mold during this whole thing. No one seemed to care about that detail. The moldy spackle was immediately closed and thrown out, but I still think it might have contributed. *shivers* so creepy, thinking of colonies of mold growing in me. yuuuuckk... I'm glad you had yours figured out and dealt with..? Is it the kind of mold that stays with you forever causing weird symptoms? :/

Tori wrote: "When I was 10 I had headaches almost every day of my life for a year from sun up to sun down. Turns out I had a horrible mold infection in my sinuses that they didn't find till my second cat scan."

Hi Dr. Tammie! :) I suggested meningitis in the beginning, but the nurse sort of laughed at me and said she doubted it was that. They did lots of blood and urine tests, so I expect it would've shown up somewhere... hopefully?

And, yes, I refer to all of you as "my pandas" and he understands me. :]

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments The column on the spreadsheet looks at the "high" number for expected books per month (bpm). You and I, for example, have 12 bpm listed because we signed up for 2-3 books per week, so 8-12 bpm. But it only looks at the high number -- you're a bit more ahead of the average (10 bpm) or the low side (8 bpm). So on the high side you're up 11, but on the low side you're up 15! :) Plus this event has the banking feature, which is handy. Wheel's got another 8 days or so and then we're onto Bingo, which supposedly requires more specific books.

I say all this to say that now might be the *best* time to take a breather! In case you were on the fence about it. ;) I'm glad I'm sick now and not during one of the 'harder' events!! Totally needed a break too. And I think the team would rather have us rest now and back on point for the upcoming events. :)

But now that you know what it is you can fight it! Some people have triggers - for me certain kinds of alcohol and cheese can bring on a migraine, so by avoiding them I make my life easier. :)

And about meningitis - when ER docs try to figure out what's wrong with you they start with the worst case scenario and rule them out one by one. Any severe headache will have meningitis, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and similarly scary things at the top of the list. Luckily if your blood tests and CT are clean they can cross that off no problem. :)

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Well, I'm a teetotaler and drink water constantly so probably not wine or dehydration (brings them on for my partner). It was likely the drug I recently quit that started this one so maybe it'll be my last! haha.. i don't really believe that. :/

I thought the nurse would be interested in my neck stiffness when I mentioned meningitis and she was the first person I saw that time, but no. *shrug* maybe I already had some 'not meningitis' flag I didn't know about. Not sure. It was the mean nurse who spoke mostly in nurse-code and I had to say, "I don't know what that means" a few times. Gr.

My eyes are dilated, boooo... Nothing wrong with them though. Still close to 20/20. :) But can't really read for a few hours. :/ Guess it's time to catch up on Killjoys. ;) :)

I thought this book was well-written. I hoped to find it relatable, but mostly it just made me sad. Largely focuses on self-esteem issues that I don't have in the same magnitudes. Good book, engaging, empathetic; just not something of the sort I would want to read again.

BTW - Love sci-fi! Fantasy mostly puts me off with unpronouncable words and new languages to learn, and just.. too fantastic? I prefer the science.
