Sorry everyone. Chloe was actually replaced last night before checking in today. I've sent her a message and we'll have her on the reserves list.

Glad both of your replacements showed up. Everyone have fun!

Chloe Hollis (charmedgirl) | 97 comments I'll go with C7

Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments If there is is till time to pick I want B9. It's my favorite bingo pick. But if it has to wait till next round I'm okay with that.

I accidentally started a book yesterday because I'm too into the series I'm reading. I'll finish it up by tonight though.

Also, Welcome new players.

Kazen, what's our guess list so far?

Sam Lien (sam_nguyen) | 124 comments Kazen, I have some questions. Sorry I'm so out of it...

1. How many pages at least is it acceptable for each book?
2. Can you help me check my shelf name??

Thanks <333

prag ♻ (janayanation) Hey guys, I hope I'm not the last one picking a square (am I? Sorry for the delay, I was outside) I haven't ever played battleship before, I'm gonna go relook at the rules and then figure out this square stuff.

prag ♻ (janayanation) Okay, I'll stick with square A4.

message 210: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments After I picked my square, I wondered if anyone has played before...is it better that we pick spots all over the board or should at least some of us try closer together? Wondering if anyone has experience with this game?

message 211: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Thanks Tori...I have a question for whoever...I set up a Wobble shelf...what do I use that for? I've read everything...I missed something I'm sure

message 212: by Victoria Grace (new)

Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments I've never played. Someone picked b4 I picked b9 and someone else picked I9. I think we just want to get a rough feel of where everything is on the board the first go around.

Someone Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your shelf links to the spread sheet we are going to have for the challenge. So when ever you add a book to it, it will link onto the spread sheet.(????)

message 213: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Ok...that makes sense...Kazen...I think you are probably aware of this, but as of a few minutes go, I wasn't linked to the spreadsheet yet.

So basically what we read needs to go on that shelf...thanks Tori

message 214: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Hollis (charmedgirl) | 97 comments So we can read any book we like?
As I am almost the book I am reading now and was going to read the sequel to it.

message 215: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments I think in this challenge the board will be indicating what we read....I read instructions twice and that's just my interpretation.

message 216: by Victoria Grace (new)

Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments Does anyone know when we get to place our hits? Because the challenge starts at 5am my time and I would like to start picking out books for the challenge at the library tonight.

Yeah, so I think in the rules it says we're (our captain/ co-captains) supposed to enter our 10 guesses today (actually yesterday for me, it's 2:30 am here, but basically on the 16th we start) so we can get our challenges and start reading.

message 221: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Guys, a question- do we have our spreadsheet yet? (Really sorry I'm behind on all this stuff, I have no idea where I've been) Because that's where we get our challenges, right?

message 222: by Victoria Grace (new)

Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments Jeez you're up late. Yeah that's what I thought too. I guess we just have to wait then.

message 223: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Ahaha, I'm on my summer break right now, and I was watching Friends, and one thing led to another, and, well, I'm almost done with a whole season. This happened yesterday too- I was reading until late and by the time I finished my book, it was 3.

Okay, I'm realising just now this isn't the healthiest idea.

Ehh, I should probably get some sleep. My brother think I'm an insomniac.

message 224: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Hi guys -

I just woke up (6am here in Japan) so give me some time to shower and caffeinate my brain and I'll be back to answer all your questions :)

message 225: by Kazen (new)

Kazen My hair is still drippy but I'm here! ;)

Let's start off with the spreadsheet link - the Spreadsheet Guru (though I'd like to use Goddess at this point, she's incredible) is still at work, so if we run into any problems we may have to wait a little for a fix.

Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Some of you are in red - that may mean that you have a private profile and will need to friend the main mod account. Some of you are also missing shelves - once the guru goddess is online hopefully we can get that straightened out. :)

Tammie, you haven't missed a thing - welcome! The group challenges here can be pretty daunting to start but once you get going I find things fall into place. :D

Don't worry about the mini-challenge if you don't want to - Battleship is where it's at!

Eeep, I forgot to link the main rules on the first page - thanks for pointing that out! They are over here - that thread has basic rules for each game, as well. Short answers:

1. 100 pages is the minimum for this challenge. Books need to be shelved as the edition you read, as that's the page count that, uh, counts. (Obviously I need more tea...) If you read an audiobook we'll use the most popular (print/e-) edition for page count purposes.

2. Once the guru is back I'll get some answers about the shelves, not sure what's going on in the spreadsheet there.

We're going for a scattershot strategy at first - we have a limited number of shots so we'll be concentrating on squares around hits after that.

message 230: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Tammie wrote: "Thanks Tori...I have a question for whoever...I set up a Wobble shelf...what do I use that for? I've read everything...I missed something I'm sure"

No worries! The Wobble shelf is where you'll put books once you've finished reading them. They'll automatically be slurped up/entered into the spreadsheet, making things much easier for us captains. :)

Kazen Chloe wrote: "So we can read any book we like?

Chloe, please check message 209 and your PMs about your status in this challenge, there's been some moving around.

I'll be placing hits soon-ish once I catch up here and the tea fully kicks in :) You'll be able to see goals in the spreadsheet immediately; I'll post a big ol' goal post with explanations here as well.

Thanks Kazen - yes, if you could post the goals here on the thread that would be great. I am at work and I can't access the spreadsheet here on my work computer for some reason (I think its blocked).

Less than 12 hours to go now....Let the madness begin!!!

Kazen

The Wobble is a little over 11 hours away, huzzah! A couple of things to remember before we start:

- Books started before the Wobble timer reaches zero do not count. So if you're just getting ready to start a 900 page monster it may be better to wait a few hours so that it can go towards the challenge. :) Likewise, if you're close to finishing a book you may want to do that right now so you have a clean slate once things start!

- We need to read two books for each hit task in order to get the points, and those books need to be read by two different people. They don't have to be the same book. More (different) team members can read the task for bonus points after that.

- Miss tasks (which are harder) can also have two books read for each, but you only get points for page count. More details on all things pointsy the Battleship Rules page.

- Some people don't have shelves listed in the spreadsheet. If you let me know what your Wobble shelf will be (many people name it "wobble", "challenge" or the like) I'll let the guru know to enter them into the spreadsheet.

- While an empty wobble shelf at the beginning of the challenge isn't mandatory it does help keep the spreadsheet neat and easily understandable. :)

- Our members (and captains!) live across Asia, Australia, and North America, so please understand if we can't answer questions immediately. We'll be back as soon as we're able. :)

Alright, I'm going to see if the spreadsheet will cooperate with me - wish me luck!

C6 - miss - Read a book which has the main location (setting) as Canada

Book 2:

D2 - miss - Read a book written by two or more people under same name (example: Illona Andrews)
Book 1:
Book 2:

E5 - HIT! - Read a book shelved as mystery by at least 10 people
Book 1: Tammie
Book 2: Brianna

G7 - miss - Read a book which has the main location (setting) as the UK
Book 1:

H5 - HIT! - Read a book shelved as horror by at least 10 people
Book 1:

Five hits - that's amazing! Statistically I was expecting three, maybe four, so that just shows how awesome we are. :D

Now... strategy! There are lot more points up for grabs with the hits, so I think we should concentrate on those to start. If you'd like to throw your hat in the ring for a particular task let me know and I'll add your name above.

And remember, don't start just yet ! We get our wobble on in 11 hours or so :)

Brianna Andreda | 422 comments Yay we have some tasks!!!! *Happy dances around living room* Now off to see if any of my Summer TBR books will work.

message 239: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Romance or mystery for me. I could do any other as well...should I be recommending books as well? I guess we have to get whatever the book is on all of our 'to read' shelf...is that right. This is tricky.

message 240: by Victoria Grace (new)

Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments eeek I'm so happy! give me that romance category and I'll get back to you with what I pick. I could probably also do a paranormal book too. thank God it's the weekend...almost

message 241: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Let's stick with one category a person for now... Tammie, I'll put you down for mystery and Tori, I'll put you in for romance. Recommendations aren't required but are always nice! :D

message 242: by Victoria Grace (new)

Victoria Grace (torrritm) | 67 comments Alright I scoured my home library for a good tbr romance and I found Rebel belle by Rachel Hawkins Rebel Belle (Rebel Belle, #1) by Rachel Hawkins It is 345 pages.

Guys what am I going to do till 5am? Guess I'll have to turn on my netflix or socialize....

message 243: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments I'm looking for Mysteries that I have in common on 'to read' shelf with other members of our team...am I thinking right on this...at least two people must read the same book right?

Two people must read a book, any book that fits. Doesn't have to be the same book. So go for whatever mystery looks good! :D

message 246: by Tammie (new)

Tammie Tackett ok so i can read any book thats mystery Read a book shelved as mystery by at least 10 people

message 247: by Brianna (new)

Brianna Andreda | 422 comments Here are some books that I can read by spots. I went for mostly misses since they are harder.

B9 - The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks (Nicholas is #68 on the list)

G7 - Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding

E5 - The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

message 248: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Brianna, pick whichever one you would like to read first and I'll put you down for it :) And while misses are harder they also give fewer points. :( I'm in the process of clarifying with the mods right now, but we will be able to add bonus books to our hits... just trying to figure out exactly what we need to do before we can count them.
