When I was a vegetarian, I would tell people it wasn't because I like animals, but because I HATED vegetables -- and then violently chomp into a carrot with murderous glee in my eyes. :) Are plants scary even when dead, ie in the fridge? I'm not a huge nature fan, but it's mostly arachnids I fear.

ETA: Triffids are technically aliens that move around (unrooted) and look like leafy giraffes. Maybe not really plants at all? The book is classic B-movie hilarity.

It reads sort of like that, yeah, but since the shortest word on our wheel is 5 letters, I'd assume not. I think it just means the books we use must include 4 shelved as fiction.

This is confusing to me.
We don't have any books shelved over 500 pages either.
I'm ready a 600+ on the side while I do other shorter books. I suppose one strategy might be for a couple faster readers to read a few longer books to get on the shelf.
A couple of the TA books that haven't been used are over 500 as well.

message 2317: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Hi guys!

I'll be catching up with the thread in a minute but first I want to talk about this boost because yea boosts! Our boast from Milon is:

"Milon boasts that he once completed a wheelathon word by reading 4 books shelved as Fiction "

So if we meet or beat Milon's boast by completing a word with 4 or more books shelved as fiction we get an Omni-bonus. The full details are here, but it's basically like the Olympic bonuses with a couple more added in (lower color bonus level by one, request respin, etc.).

Matching/beating boasts is not required. But it's fun and we can get some omni-bonuses out of it, yea!

A note about this boast - "shelved as Fiction" means that Fiction shows up on the main book page without clicking through. I have a feeling we'll clear this one easily, and I'm really curious what we'll get next!

I know at least one person finished a silver titled book - huzzah! I'm going to go through the thread now and get the spreadsheet up to date, then hopefully enter our first round of NBRCBOM. :) If you have any questions fire away and I'll answer them when I get back to this spot in the thread.

There's no particular hard end date, as we haven't decided when we'll spin for a new word yet, though I doubt it will be soon soon. ;) Even if you finish your book after we spin a new word it's totally fine - it will be full of letters, and you never know when we'll get another silver task!

Kazen And we were able to use that spin to fill our Milon boast, huzzah! Bethany, Tammie, Margaret, and Rose had fiction books that went towards meeting the challenge. Way to go team!

Boasts will be posted at random intervals so we'll just have to wait and see when the lovely Milon will visit us next. :)

I'll update the first next post on this page and then head to bed - midnight, eep! Expect our word to be completed at least once more tomorrow, bwahahaha. :D

Current word: NBRCBOM
Possible books for each letter (remembering that some overlap):

N - 6
B - 8 (need 2)
R - 10
C - 9
O - 7
M - 9

Color Bonus 1: Silver in title
Possible: 1

Color Bonus 2: Silver in text
Possible: 2

Most needed: Silver in title (remember, it must have a spell out letter we can use!)
Also could use: books with N and/or O in the spell out (Bs are nice, too)

Kazen Ella wrote: "when does our week end?"

Apparently on Friday around 11 am London time, it looks like. It looks like reducing the color bonuses may be done manually by the mods, so it may not always be at that exact time though. A little wishy-washy, but it's safe to say we're in week two right now.

I'm not sure and similar to Ray's question, I'd rather not bug the mods until we have a particular book we'd like to use. The good news is that we're okay on sheer numbers, so there's no push to use them at the moment. We can rethink if one of those short books has a rare color or item on the cover. :) Sound good?
