I just re-read it all again today and still love it! xkcd does a lot of really good stuff. So happy you like it! :D :D The bottom right is great too (cat/seagull) and "Did you make it yourself?" Yes. "It's very nice." Bahahaha. :D

The basic definition is that the character needs to have a "speaking role" or else have an "active part in the story". We have all kinds of letters at the moment, so maybe it would be better to skip it, for safety's sake.

I haven't been able to get much reading done since last week, so today is a dedicated reading day. I need the stress relief. So I'll probably be finishing up a few books today.
Lory wrote: "Bethany did you enjoy the book? Tamora Pierce is one of my favorites authors!"Yea! I read it years ago and it was a middle-grade book, so I was worried that the re-read would disappoint reading it in my twenties... but it was still fantastic!

I want to do something like this... I've been generally avoiding my thick books in favor of books I can speed through in a day or two. But I do have 12 hours on planes and three hours in airports in the upcoming weeks, as well as several hours in a cabin during which my primary activity will be avoiding the more annoying members of my family by reading, so I think I might be able to stay on my 3 book/week regimen while reading some chunkier novels.
Speaking of the trip, I really should see if my nook still works...
Is it bad if my big motivator for reading a lot is that I want to catch up to Lory and Ray's page counts? :)
p.s.: Protector of the small has the pink quote"I couldn't have done nearly as much if you weren't in the pink of health to begin with."
I'm not totally sure if that's in reference to the color pink? It's an odd turn of phrase that I haven't heard before.

One of my Naked Sun characters was a murder victim, dead at the start if the book. I didn't include him because I had the letters already but he had a HUGE role-- constantly talked about by numerous people, personally and professionally. What would the verdict be on that? Just for curiosity's sake.

Well, I took out the duplicate letters in the most efficient way possible. :) There were a bunch more characters.
I'm happy that is has every dragon letter!
Bethany wrote: "as well as several hours in a cabin during which my primary activity will be avoiding the more annoying members of my family by reading"Hahaha! Sounds awful! I long ago rebelled against mandatory association with annoying family (I'm a fair bit older than you, you've got time *wink*). 12 plane hours!? Where ya headed? (Unless that's too personal, not pressure to answer!)
Bethany wrote "Is it bad if my big motivator for reading a lot is that I want to catch up to Lory and Ray's page counts? :)
I think any (non-harmful) motivators are"good"! But I have to bargain with myself to do my chores or leave the house to run errands so maybe I'm not a good judge, haha. :) I'd say to remember you joined up later than us but then I remembered you brought books, so instead I say "neener neener, can't catch me! :P"
Heeheehee
Ray (user2637) wrote: "12 plane hours!? Where ya headed? (Unless that's too personal, not pressure to answer!)"This is the total time-on plane for a round trip with indirect flights from CO to NY and back. Going to a cabin to visit my nuclear family primarily, but a super narcissistic uncle and a 10-year old will be there as well.
The average book I read takes me around 4 hours, so I figure if I get 12 hours of travel time and at least 4 hours a day while there to read, I'll need to bring at least 7 books to read... which means either getting the nook working or resigning myself to packing like 1 outfit and 20 pounds of books. Honestly, if the nook doesn't work I might use it as an excuse to get a kindle.

I love my Kindle! So much flexibility! I love my iPad more...I got for Christmas and it's so handy for email etc. I've never had a Nook though...
I've heard the "white" ones are the ones that last the longest. For me, I HAVE to hold a book. Someday, I'll move over the electronic side. LOL (Bethany, I love your Eevee)Bethany wrote: "Caly wrote: "Bethany wrote: "if the nook doesn't work I might use it as an excuse to get a kindle.

Michele wrote: "I've heard the "white" ones are the ones that last the longest. For me, I HAVE to hold a book."Generally I prefer holding a book, but for travel I would rather not have to drag a literal suitcase full of books around the airport. I'm hoping for this trip to get away with just bringing a backpack and re-washing the same two outfits daily. I will have to bring at least a couple paper books though, if only because they won't run out of battery and generally I won't be told to put them away at any point during the flight. :)
Hm, ya know, I bet one of my friends has a kindle they would let me borrow... my nook is like five years old, so it has some annoyances like really jarring page transitions.

I rarely have the opportunity to read for really long stretches but I get a good 5- 6 hours straight from 100% to needing a charge. I am sure there are better out there, but I love the size and portability and Kindle Unlimited LOL besides it only cost me $49 so over all I am quite pleased.

I also love to hold a real book so I tend to do about 50-50. The Kindle is so nice for travel though, I can take 10 or 12 books in my purse Hehehe
I used to use my Nook, but later found that the kindle and other e readers had more options and more customization. Plus nooks are really pricey for what you get. I ended up packing it up some where and grabbing the actual book.
Annoyed that one of the books I read for my Goodreads challenge doesn't have cover art and just looks ugly with all the other book covers. Goodreads user problems...
Hey guys! Another early start for me so some notes:- It sounds like we're up for the challenge of a new word, huzzah! I'll update the spreadsheet and spin after I get home from work, probably in 10 hours or so.
- I love my kindle! So many reasons - English books are mad expensive here, physical books are hard on my hands, the kindle is much easier to read while standing on the train, and so on. And I love that it's not back lit like the Fire or iPad, which always seem bright and glaring to me no matter the light.
Gotta run but look forward to a new word tonight/in the morning! :D
Bethany wrote: "Generally I prefer holding a book, but for travel I would rather not have to drag a literal suitcase full of books around the airport."This is exactly what I would do during summer visits to my father's house. 1 suitcase for books, 1 for everything else. He lived in a business-y area, worked a lot, & my stepmom wasn't really interested kids. I read a ton! Almost makes me wish my schools had given summer reading lists. :)
Also, I get 10s of hours of reading on my iPod with the screen dimmed & gps & background app refresh off. The screen is really small though so I wouldn't recommend it. If you happen to have an iphone or ipod touch, iBooks is great though! I love the note-highlighting & built in dictionary. I've got hundreds if books on this thing. :)Someday I'll get a 'real' ereader.
Bethany wrote: "Is it bad if my big motivator for reading a lot is that I want to catch up to Lory and Ray's page counts? :)"Lol. I know right?! I think Lory and I must read at exactly the same rate because we keep going back and forth on inching over one another in page counts.
I've been writing for work, so I've been totally absent. Opps. I have been reading to wind down though. I'm going to post here, then edit to update the letters/pink quote as I get them.Finished-
