Madison Phillips needs a husband fast. Someone who can put on the performance of his life…someone tall, dark and temporary.
According to her grandfather's trust, she must marry before she turns thirty if she wants to inherit millions of dollars. Otherwise, the money will go to her cousin, Heather.
Jackson Lang, a thirty-four-year-old self-made millionaire, lost his father when he and his little brother were toddlers. With a sickly mother who was underpaid and over worked, Jackson was left to care for his younger brother. He grew up believing that the good things in life went to those with money and power…those who took control…those who worked a little harder than the next guy.
Jackson is mourning the death of Walter Garrett, a man who took him and his brother under his wing, when Walter's widow, Heather, asks Jackson for a favor. Madison and Jackson must convince family and friends that they are in love. Not an easy feat considering they don’t even like one another.

A bitch of a cousin, a man who trusts the wrong person while trying to the right thing and a loveable female lead with millions at stake. Who do to trust??!
This was a fun read and while it was pretty predictable in part, it was still good. :)
This one gave up too much of the story in the first few pages. Knowing that the guy was in on it from the beginning because of her cousin kinda sucked. (I don't consider that a spoiler since it is said outright on like page 3.)
I felt like you knew how it would end after the second chapter. H is to easily manipulate for stupid reason. Ok read, would recommend but would not personally read again.
I was looking for a good romance book, and this nearly fit the bill with a few hits and misses. Another reader noted that the book didn't work for her because you knew early on that Jackson knew Madison and was in on the scheme to make sure she didn't get the money. In fact, that actually was not bad for me. I liked the fact that Madison really didn't want to do this, but had no choice. She really needed the money for a good cause, and her cousin was just blowing money on gambling. Is it realistic that any woman would marry a perfect stranger to inherit $2 million dollars and not worry about him killing her, raping her, or robbing her blind? Uh, nope, not at all. BUT, it was still fun to read when I wasn't rolling my eyes that is.
What did fall a little flat for me was how it progressed. I liked that he was really working hard at the beginning to get her to choose him. I liked that she chose Collin, but he said no. She instinctively knew something wouldn't work with Jackson. I don't know if any woman would have looked at a guy who didn't need the money and truly thought he was doing this because she was desperate. One, why would he care...he doesn't know her. Two, men generally run from marriage, not volunteer for it...especially with a stranger. And three, no matter what you promised, no where in that promise did it say "to look out for her means that you need to go to extremes like marriage to a stranger".
The supporting characters were great. I loved Chris, Pam, Jamie, Collin, and Jen. You don't get tons of them in the story, but what you get is entertaining. I like how she thought Jackson and Chris were a couple, then gets drunk at her wedding after learning they are not. I like how Jen and Pam teach her how to seduce Jackson and the pool scene one of my favorites. Those that knew what was really going on didn't agree with it, but at the end of the day hoped Jackson would realize what a great woman he married.
What didn't work for me was the fact that he just blindly believed Heather. Even when he wasn't sure he didn't just ask Madison or even follow up by going to the shelter to check on her story. He met the kids, he'd been to her house, he saw her car, he spoke to her best friend, but he still thought she was a greedy money hungry woman? Just because of one party where she was dressed up? Even his brother wasn't supportive of his doing this for Heather...you think he would have been smarter...and he came across as smart except for seeing through Heather. Then the whole not wanting to commit was just annoying...he had every symptom of loving this woman, but it took him to nearly the end to realize he wanted her. Last, the end was also a little abrupt. I expected something more...it wasn't bad, just I didn't understand what happened after he left the office and showed up at her house. He has Adam, a deed, and is just in time to stop Heather on Madison's birthday? Uh, exactly how and when did all of this happen in one day?
So, to sum it up, yes, it was fun reading it, but still had some things that kept it from being a great book for me. I by no means am the majority and expect that others will enjoy it more.
Madison needs a husband fast. Someone who can put on the performance of his life…someone tall, dark and temporary.
Madison needs to be married for at least 3 months before her 30th birthday to receive 2 million dollars from her grandfather's estate. Time is running out. Madison's friend, Jen, goes husband shopping with her to a couple bars one night. Jen points out Collin and Jackson. Madison was far too attracted to Jackson, so she asked his friend Collin to marry her. He laughed at the idea of marrying someone he didn't know. Jackson on the other hand, said no problem... even though she never asked him. Since time was running out, she had no choice but to consider Jackson...
-------Spoiler-------
What Madison doesn't know is that Jackson is actually doing Madison's cousin Heather a favor by offering to marry Madison. You see, if Madison doesn't get the 2 million, then Heather gets it! SOOOO - we can all see this happening. You see Madison and Jackson start to act like a loving couple, even sharing a bed... too Madison a few tries to get him there though LOL. As time moves on, you see that this is going to explode soon... and it does. One of the issues I had was that I wanted more. I think the book could have drawn me in even more if it didn't skip a month in a matter of a page. The end was a little predictable, but I still enjoyed it.
I liked the chemistry I could feel between Madison and Jackson, and then I also liked the secondary characters, Jaime, Jen, Collin, Chris, and Pam. I am not good with names, and I finished reading this book at 4am... so for me to remember their names, they made an impression on me!
Overall, it could have been a longer book by not skipping such large time periods, but it was a solid book. I would recommend it to anyone needing a light easy read.
"Madison precisa arrumar um marido e rápido. Alguém que se encaixe para fazer uma performance perfeita: alto, sombrio.... e temporário."
Quando vi a capa do livro e a sinopse tão pequenininha, pensei logo que se tratava de um desses livros de leitura rápida e engraçada. E não me enganei.
Madison needs to find a husband by her 30 birthday to receive an inheritance that her grandfather left her so she can continue to help out a youth center. However, Heather, Madison's cousin has other plans for that money. Both woman have a proposition for Jackson if he is willing to marry Madison. A three months marriage with no strings attached couldn't be so hard. Could it?
I liked Madison's innocence. She didn't come off naive which I really enjoyed. She had her insecurities but she seemed happy with herself. One thing I can't stand in books is when the female characters have absolutely no self confidence. I liked Jackson's character. Theresa Ragan did a great job of showing both sides of Jackson with out over doing it. I was able to see the struggle within himself while he was falling for Madison instantly or trying to remember that she wasn't what she seemed to be. There seemed to be quite a few characters in this story and i didn't feel overwhelmed by them or there personalities. This was a very fast read, which of course are my faves. If I start reading a book I won't put it down till I'm done. This was a short story that was just long enough for me. From the beginning you can see which way the story is going and how it will end but at no time did it disappoint.
Ms . Ragan is becoming one of my favourite author day by day! I'm continuously reading only her books from last two days and each book is so captivating and easy to read...iam finishing each one of them in just 3-4 hours!! I think An offer he can't refuse is the shortest...and it was a sweet read....full of romance!! I just love such books which makes you feel so happy after reading it...I can't say the feeling! The book is predictable but its fun to read....to read a book without any big conflicts expecting a happy ending!! Iam not going into the story, if you want it you just have to read it...you wont get much from the summary....that makes it more interesting!! I would recommend this to all romance lovers...!!
Madison needs to find a husband if she wants to inherit the 2 million dollars left by her grandfather. Jackson, bachelor extraordinaire, fits the bill. He has no desire to wed, but is willing to, if the price is right. ~ This is the 2nd Ragan book I've read that's written like a bad soap opera. Dramatic to the point of ridiculous. "Apologize to my fiancée right now for making her feel badly." Yikes! I've come to the conclusion that I prefer T.R. Ragan's thrillers. Romance is not her forte, in my opinion. 'The poor girl had no idea that she was about to marry the Big Bad Wolf. And he was hungry' Seriously, Theresa? #smh
Madison needs a husband fast to claim her inheritance and she needs to stay married for 90 days. Jackson is gorgeous, rich and a committed bachelor but he is paying back a debt by looking out for Heather. He has agreed to be the guy Madison marries only to pull out before the 90th day.
Jackson should have been able to see through Heather's story and done a better background check before he dove into the situation. that was a little weak but otherwise it was enjoyable.
Well this book was just ok for me. It was a bit slow in the beginning and picked up and turned out pretty good towards the end. I did like both main characters and the supporting characters where like able as well. I guess maybe he storyline line was just a little over done for me, there really wasn't anything original about it. On a positive it was well written and not a lot of editing mistakes. It was an enjoyable short read.
This is a cute short story that isn't bad at all considering it's free on Amazon. I would read more from this author.
It was well written and had a good story line. The only part, I felt that could have been better was when the betrayal was revealed. I wish the author would have done that differently or elaborated more details after it happened with Madison.
This was a nice, easy read. It was predictable, but that's why I liked it, I didn't need to think too much, this would be an excellent holiday read. It was well written, no spelling errors, so all in all a bloody good book.
If you're looking for a hot, smutty read, then this isn't the book for you. If you're looking for a good bit of chick lit, then this is the book for you.
I loved this book. The idea seems.....borrowed....I've read it before. But the characters were genuine and likable and Jackson, though stubborn and a bit slow on the uptake, was a great main male role. I loved his brother, so fun. Not a deep story, but a light, cute read.
3.5 I love a good marriage of convenience story. I liked the overall plot, the changing feelings between Jackson and Madison were believable. I found some of the dialogue to be stilted, almost like it was an old book rewritten for a more modern reader.
This is the first book that I read by this author but it definitely won't be the last. I enjoyed the way she can pull you into the story and you find yourself getting so invested in these characters. I love Madison and Jackson and definitely recommend this book.
This has been on my mini tbr list and finally had the chance to read this. I just couldn't stop I had to know what was going to happen. How it was going to end. Loved it! This was a sweet, fun story to read. Will be definitely checking out this author's other books as well. :)
Pretty standard chick-lit romance. The writing was engaging but I felt it was a little lazy. There was room for more story here. I feel like the author could have put a little more time into it and made it a little longer and a more satisfying read.
