What May Be On the Cover
fiber optic cable
bottle brush
the most spindly flower I've ever seen in my life
Bert's chimney sweeper from Mary Poppins
...that's all I got. ;) Great job with the book!

Graaah, it's so annoying when you don't like what you're reading. But think, when you're done you'll be able to say, "I read P&P!" Then you'll be able to add, "And I hated it!" and start a big debate just for fun. ;) Hang in there!

I didn't really like Pride & Prejudice too much myself. It was the only book in which I did something that I never thought possible. I actually started daydreaming or somehow my thoughts wandered and next thing I know I was about 10 pages away from where I remembered reading. Like how does one read something and have no clue what they read? I still don't know how that happened to this day.

I totally had this happen in college - the Japanese history professor assigned the longest, most boring books possible. It may have been The Tale of Genji (1200 pages) that made my eyes go @_@ and then x_x... I've never returned to it, needless to say!

Thanks! That's a lot of pages. :D

Wow! Ok, no more of those strange Japanese teas for you Kazen...
I thought I saw fireworks but that was about it.
If only we could use Bert's chimney sweeper as a decoration for Chariot? :)

What should I read next? I have books picked out for PJ:
151 - 200
251 - 300
451 - 500
551 - 600
601 - 650
A lot of them don't have decorations on the cover, and I don't really know what everyone else is reading, so I'm not sure which to pick. Halp!

I am in the same predicament Ray. None of my books have decorations so I am just reading "what makes me happy" (to quote Kazen) as I am sure if we can't use it for Olympics we can use it in Wheel-a-thon.
Hope this helps :)

Hope this helps :) "
Yeah... but I want us to get all the points we can in Olympics too! So I'm torn. Suppose I'll start Destination Unknown since at the end of the last book (view spoiler) , so I think I'd like to know what happens next, haha!
It's 151 pgs, btw. :)

Destination Unknown by Katherine Applegate"
I have you down for this and Maximum Ride Forever - great work!

Also I'm heading out of town Friday morning so no last-minute reading for me -- I can't read in the car. Trying to knock out a few more books before then though.
Happy reading everyone!

Oh my goodness I can only imagine the boredom.

A book with higher page numbers for PJ would be awesome, if you have one. Otherwise Chariot decorations are always great. :)

Next, I was going to read

The other one that I want to read is

564 pages...I'll start tomorrow
I should have time to read one additional before our deadline...let me know what you want by tomorrow so I can hunt/reserve if needed.
Thanks!

Anyway. I saw that sentinal was used for my pages entry but I can't use that one cause i started it during battle ship. I did however read Miss Mayhem
and Golden Son
and miss mayhem can take sentinal's spot!
Good work everyone!!!

I cannot agree more. There was, IMO, no plot in the first 70% of the book. Then the whole affair with Lydia happens- I'm still confused why her marrying Wickham is a good thing. The only part I liked was after Lizzy and Darcy got engaged, which is basically the ending.

Ooh, tell me what you think of The Kiss of Deception, I've read horrible as well as amazing reviews of this, so I'm not sure if I should read it.

Use for page jumping or chariot decoration, where ever it will fit.
At this point I don't have another book picked out yet, but if I read something not too long I can have it done before Friday. Is there something that is needed at this point? If not I will just choose a book and we can use if for Wheel....
Thanks! And can I just say, this has made reading even MORE fun than it was before! It is helping me read so many more books than I ever thought I would get to in a year. 8-)

So far the book is enjoyable. I'm about 25% done. It is reading quickly and i find the story interesting, so far so good!
Ella, my understanding is that the chariot decorations can be whenever, so they are open!

Sounds great! If a captain isn't around when you're hunting for a book go ahead and fill in an empty spot in PJ, if you think you can finish in time. Otherwise read whatever makes you happy. :) Keep up the awesome work, you're rockin' it!

Yea weddings!
Thanks for catching Sentinal - I moved it to the reserve page for Wheel and put Miss Mayhem in its place (whew!). Golden Son also marked as finished so you have your required books done, huzzah! :D
Go ahead and read whatever makes you happy - any books you finish by Friday will be slotted in to PJ and Chariot decorations, otherwise they'll count towards Wheel. Nice job!

Congrats on finishing! And you are now officially better than me, because I don't think I've ever gotten past page 20. ;) And just think - you'll never have to read it again! Yeaa!
The other book you read slots into PJ perfectly - way to go!

The "baby" thing really annoys me, especially because I'm not into the kind of guys that would call me baby (after I told them off, lol). At least you're done with it! I hope the flight was smooth and lovely.

This fit right in PJ, yea! We have a couple of shorter slots open in Heat Four if you'd like to aim for one: 251-300 and 351-400. If you'd like to read a longer or shorter book... anything at all really, that's okay too! We'll squish it in or save it for Wheel.
eta: The book you're reading now is great - read on!
"Thanks! And can I just say, this has made reading even MORE fun than it was before! It is helping me read so many more books than I ever thought I would get to in a year. 8-) "
I am so happy to hear this - three cheers for group challenges! We get to read more books, talk about them with awesome people, and fuel that competitive spirit :)

Thanks for the heads up! You can totally read for Chariot decorations, no problem - we'll count it for points once the Chariot is done. And if that doesn't work for some reason we can always fit it into PJ or Wheel. :)

LOL, I am in thr minority it sounds like, but I love Pride and Prejudice. But it is definitely slow, I just love the long sentenced and the in depth every day life. I also read this book about all the significance of her writing that is so subtle. Sorry, geeked out there a little!

Hello Red Pandas! How's your weekend going? Lots of gray skies and rain here, perfect for reading! ;)
It's kind of hard to believe but we're coming up on the end of the Olympics - five and a half days as I write this, eep! Check out the countdown clock for the current time remaining. Luckily things are coming together nicely, meaning we can think about some strategy going into the last few days.
First things first though - if you're working on one of your required books, do that! Ignore my blabber. ;) If you don't think you'll be able to finish in time let us know and we'll see what we can do. Options, we haz them.
Those done with required books can read for bonus, yea! Here's what the bonus for each event looks like:
Event 1, Relay - complicated and involved... probably best skipped
Event 2, Page Jumping - we're reading for this now
Event 3, Distance - extra throws will open up once the rest of the events are completed, but aren't as pointsy as some other things
Event 4, Fight Club - we're reading coaching books for this now
Event 5, Chariot - decorations will open up once the chariot is complete
Considering that we don't have much time left PJ and Chariot decorations will probably be the easiest events to fill, and some of the most points per book to boot. I'm not expecting any trouble with Chariot - there's a handful of Travel Agent books (books we can borrow from the mods) that fit, and "decoration" is broadly defined. That leaves our favorite, Page Jumping. :D
While in the early rounds we needed books with low page counts, for bonus we need PJ books with higher page counts. 400-600 pages is the sweet spot, but we may be able to use books up to 700 pages.
But here's the thing - no matter what you read, we can probably use it. Books with lower page counts may not look like they fit now, but may fill a hole after books are moved to chariot decorations. And no matter what, any book that for whatever reason we can't squish into Olympics will count towards Wheel. So there's no such thing as a wasted book. :)
So go ahead, read a book you've been meaning to get to and that you think you can finish by Friday. (Or several, that's okay too!) If it has a higher page count or a chariot decoration on it, great! If not, still great! We'll fit it in somewhere.
Go forth, Red Pandas, and read! Read like the wind! :D
