Hello Red Pandas! How's your weekend going? Lots of gray skies and rain here, perfect for reading! ;)

It's kind of hard to believe but we're coming up on the end of the Olympics - five and a half days as I write this, eep! Check out the countdown clock for the current time remaining. Luckily things are coming together nicely, meaning we can think about some strategy going into the last few days.

First things first though - if you're working on one of your required books, do that! Ignore my blabber. ;) If you don't think you'll be able to finish in time let us know and we'll see what we can do. Options, we haz them.

Those done with required books can read for bonus, yea! Here's what the bonus for each event looks like:

Event 1, Relay - complicated and involved... probably best skipped
Event 2, Page Jumping - we're reading for this now
Event 3, Distance - extra throws will open up once the rest of the events are completed, but aren't as pointsy as some other things
Event 4, Fight Club - we're reading coaching books for this now
Event 5, Chariot - decorations will open up once the chariot is complete

Considering that we don't have much time left PJ and Chariot decorations will probably be the easiest events to fill, and some of the most points per book to boot. I'm not expecting any trouble with Chariot - there's a handful of Travel Agent books (books we can borrow from the mods) that fit, and "decoration" is broadly defined. That leaves our favorite, Page Jumping. :D

While in the early rounds we needed books with low page counts, for bonus we need PJ books with higher page counts. 400-600 pages is the sweet spot, but we may be able to use books up to 700 pages.

But here's the thing - no matter what you read, we can probably use it. Books with lower page counts may not look like they fit now, but may fill a hole after books are moved to chariot decorations. And no matter what, any book that for whatever reason we can't squish into Olympics will count towards Wheel. So there's no such thing as a wasted book. :)

So go ahead, read a book you've been meaning to get to and that you think you can finish by Friday. (Or several, that's okay too!) If it has a higher page count or a chariot decoration on it, great! If not, still great! We'll fit it in somewhere.

Go forth, Red Pandas, and read! Read like the wind! :D

Graaah, it's so annoying when you don't like what you're reading. But think, when you're done you'll be able to say, "I read P&P!" Then you'll be able to add, "And I hated it!" and start a big debate just for fun. ;) Hang in there!

I didn't really like Pride & Prejudice too much myself. It was the only book in which I did something that I never thought possible. I actually started daydreaming or somehow my thoughts wandered and next thing I know I was about 10 pages away from where I remembered reading. Like how does one read something and have no clue what they read? I still don't know how that happened to this day.

I totally had this happen in college - the Japanese history professor assigned the longest, most boring books possible. It may have been The Tale of Genji (1200 pages) that made my eyes go @_@ and then x_x... I've never returned to it, needless to say!

I am in the same predicament Ray. None of my books have decorations so I am just reading "what makes me happy" (to quote Kazen) as I am sure if we can't use it for Olympics we can use it in Wheel-a-thon.

Hope this helps :)

Yeah... but I want us to get all the points we can in Olympics too! So I'm torn. Suppose I'll start Destination Unknown since at the end of the last book (view spoiler), so I think I'd like to know what happens next, haha!

Next, I was going to read The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1) by Mary E. Pearson - she has a flower crown which I figure can be used for decoration or page jumping. It has 492 pages.

The other one that I want to read is The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch The ebook version (which I must have from the library) is 674 pages. Which I am actually quite excited about. Those are my goals for this week.

I cannot agree more. There was, IMO, no plot in the first 70% of the book. Then the whole affair with Lydia happens- I'm still confused why her marrying Wickham is a good thing. The only part I liked was after Lizzy and Darcy got engaged, which is basically the ending.

At this point I don't have another book picked out yet, but if I read something not too long I can have it done before Friday. Is there something that is needed at this point? If not I will just choose a book and we can use if for Wheel....

This fit right in PJ, yea! We have a couple of shorter slots open in Heat Four if you'd like to aim for one: 251-300 and 351-400. If you'd like to read a longer or shorter book... anything at all really, that's okay too! We'll squish it in or save it for Wheel.
