kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Just got off work. Another long day. I mean it's good news because means things are thriving but can't help but wish for more free time and read! Lol.

I shall play catch up with the conversation in a bit.

Oh and hey Karishma, we're on the same team (green) on the other challenge hosted by AMMP etc.

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Welcome back Karishma. What festival was it? We ended up in the middle of a festival one night in India and it was so cool, so many people on the streets having fun. Sorry I tend to avoid wedding books they are just not for me,

Woah Gillian 16 hours a day thats intense!

Rebecca (rebeccaemma) | 85 comments FINALLY finished Hold Still
Date read: 14/07/2016
Pages: 230
Fits: Event 1 Title Relay - Heat 2 Leg 1 Book 1

Didn't really enjoy it so even though it was a short book it took me ages and ages.

Almost finished Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children - don't think it fits any tasks for now though. Will save for wheelathon.

Gillian - I'm busy at work too :( No rest for the wicked, eh?

Used it for chariot decor. Haha let's get creative.

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments Date for all: 15/07/16 (because it's two a.m., though it still feels like the 14th)
Read: Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz
Pages: 359
Fits: Wheels (THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD BOOK *sigh*) (I feel like it would be hard to write anything, when I have no hope of living up to truly good books)
Read: Takedown by Cat Grant
Pages: 188
Fits: Coach (everyone in the book is a fighter and fighting teacher, main setting is a training gym, and like 3 tournaments are attended)
Read: American Love Songs by Ashlyn Kane
Pages: 260
Fits: Decorations for Chariot
@Gillian and Rebecca, sorry work is heavy for you guys at the moment! I hope your S.O.s are taking good care of you during the dark times (lol).
~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments Oh and movie night was tonight. I liked the adaptation of Water for Elephants, but I like the book better. Can't battle the detail that has to be missed.

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments I've googled our patron animal.
"Most basilisks are skittish, and do not tolerate much handling when kept in captivity."
So we're a anti-social animal. Might explains some things.
message 1560: by Ashley (new)
Ashley | 1439 comments With this book I think our chariot is getting very dark...
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments It is. But we're making do with what we have. Decor books are 15 pts each! Too good to pass up.
If it's any consolation, we've got headlights ;) ;)
message 1562: by Ashley (new)
Ashley | 1439 comments I've finished;
Maleficent
Dead Until Dark
This Is Where It Ends
I'll do some updating Karishma so we'll be able to have a look - I don't think we are too far off now!!
Glad that you had a good darshan. Is this deity also named Jagannathji. Was it very crowded like Puri? Once we planned a trip to cover from Bhubaneshwer to Darjeeling. Puri, gopalpur,Balasore were also in our itenerary. Unfotunately, I fell sick in Vizag with a viral fever and had to cancel the trip. After that I could never go to any of those places.
Thanks, Kathleen. I am better and trying to complete my books for Olympic as well as the mini challenge. I hope to complete the books by tomorrow. I could never believe that I am reading 4 books - am balancing them.
Would flowers work for decor?"
Yes! I've popped down both the perfect books (red petals and white roses). Should make our chariot less...dark...violent...etc.
All the decor places have been held - we can't put these in until the tasks are complete for Event 5 and we still have some people reading books for it.
I've added the bonus round tasks into our planning spreadsheets - I've left out Event 1 Relay at this stage. The minimum for a relay is 10 books and I think we would prefer to focus on the easier tasks!
Let me know if you want it included
Ashley | 1439 comments Hi Ange - what are you reading for Event 2?
message 1568: by Kimberly (new)
Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments I finished THE NIGHTINGALE just now.
Oh, my heart....
It's for event 2. I'll try to update properly when I'm home. I listened to the audiobook - but the most popular edition is hardcover 440 pages.
I thought this was my first book by this author. But I also read Firefly Lane. Not nearly as well written as this one.
I've read about 3 or 4 books by this author and they always leave me emotional. Angel Falls is one I'll never forget.
message 1570: by Kimberly (new)
Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments Completion post
Finished The Nightingale on 15 July.
I listened to the audiobook.
The most popular edition is hardcover: 440 pages
For EVENT 2
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
I'm going to read So You Want to Start a Brewery?: The Lagunitas Story next for the TOOL ON COVER goal in event 5?
It's not very long. The most popular edition is paperback: 224 pages.
So You Want to Start a Brewery? The Lagunitas Story by Tony Magee
So... What's needed from me after that? I'm (as usual) a bit out of touch with where we are at and what would be useful. But I'm keen to assist how I can.
I did not receive any acknowledgement message. Maybe because there have been quite a number of members sending them completion messages, they have stopped sending them? It is 6 readers from 24 teams after all. They got them for sure. :)
Gillian Murrell | 497 comments The Fair Fight got a copy of this one will it pass? I'm also hunting for a copy of Raze will get it from audible if i can't get a library copy but need to know if it passes before i buy it.
message 1592: by kat (wanderfulbooks) (last edited Jul 15, 2016 07:20PM) (new)
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments ▲ Coaches must read a book that features: Wrestling, Boxing and/or MMA in any format (professional, underground, cages fights, ect....)
If the style of fight within the book is Wrestling, Boxing, or MMA (including any disciplines listed HERE) it is accepted. Any other disciplines are not. Fight must be pivotal to story (the MC must be a fighter, go regularly to see fights, ect). If one random fight happens in the story, it does not count.
EDIT:
I'm not sure about Raze... but
The Fair Fight is okay as it features boxing. I leanred something new---I didn't know pugilism is just another term for boxing!
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments UPDATE:
Gillian, Raze works for a coaching book! Just popped in the captain's chats :)
message 1594: by Gillian (new)
Gillian Murrell | 497 comments This is why i thought the fair fight would fit.
A rich Bristol merchant and enthusiast of the ring, he trains gutsy Ruth as a puglist. Soon she rules the blood-spattered sawdust at the infamous Hatchet Inn.
Pugilist is a fancy word for boxer, one who indulges in the noble art of pugilism, or fighting with one's fists
message 1595: by Gillian (new)
Gillian Murrell | 497 comments I will read both anyway and if it turns out the fit all well and good if not they can be put elsewhere.
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Gillian wrote: "Pugilist is a fancy word for boxer, one who indulges in the noble art of pugilism, or fighting with one's fists "
It is. Though I don'd understand how knocking each other up can be considered a noble sport XD
I saw you ladies over at SFRC and 2016 Goodreads Olympics.
Aren't we getting too addicted to these challenges? lol. Oh well what's another one!
Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments Sry girls, I've been missing a lot and reading less. I hope this changes now because the most busy time at work is past me now and I have more time for books again.
I'm going to finish my last Olympics mandatory book Becoming Marie Antoinette this weekend and after that I can take a short book if still needed.
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I am also at the Challenge factory and just started a super series challenge... I am not addicted...I can stop anytime I want to...I just don't want to :-P
