~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments I've read a couple by Mia Sheridan, but they were more like "okay in the moment" books for me.
I've been meaning to read V.E. Schwab for a while and Laini Taylor is <3
I've heard a lot of great things about Mistborn, but it always seemed too big a commitment for the moment. Like if I read on book I'd have to read them all and I'm not sure I'm ready for that.
Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments Noa, good thing I'm great in not finishing series and starting hundreds of new ones :)
I try not to be, but I think that's me too
Maybe we have commitment issues lol :P
Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments I really want to read a Laini Taylor book.
How do you guys track all your series, I use Fictfact which appeals to my obsession with lists!
message 1355: by Ashley (new)
Ashley | 1439 comments I'm the opposite to you two! I feel so guilty not finishing series. Even if I hated the first and the second book I feel like I have to continue. I've been trying so hard to let them go!
What's Fictfact Ange?
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I do kind of use fictfact though I keep forgetting about it. That is where goodreads comes in as I can do a quick search on the series and see which books are marked as read and therefore where I am up to.
Fictfact.com is a site where you can register and then mark where you rare up to on any series and it will email you if a new book in a series you have on there comes out.
Actually I need to update it for a series challenge I am doing this month :-)
message 1357: by ~~~N~~~ (new)
~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments @Ange, You should! She's great. What's Fictfact? I use Goodreads (I have shelves for things that have to be released and for continuing series).

@Ashley, maybe you're the best of us ;) I used to hold on, but my lists got too big to ever handle. This last month I've been working on getting rid of books and I've gotten rid of 300 to-read books and shelved 63 series I don't plan to continue as such.

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments Read: Black Dog by Cat Grant
Date: 8/7/16
Pages: 145
Fits: It's a coach book. All the MCs are fighters (1 boxing, 2 MMA), a tournament is attended, lots of training happens, and the main setting is the training gym.
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I am happy to do the 2 hour sprint tonight if no one has claimed it. You just need to let me know in the next 3 hours or so :)
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Yes Skandia start on Brandon Sanderson. Any of his books is fine just not the YA one. Not that it's bad (am sure it's good too) but I rather you pick any of his other books for a first read.
I used fictfact for a while and then just forgot all about it. I found it bothersome updating 2 different sites so I stuck with Goodreads. I still have a profile there but it has been ages til my last update.
I'm like Skandia, I can drop a series without second thought. However, I rarely DNF a book though even when I'm having a hard time finishing it (ehem American Gods) or I'm finding it meh (ehem Shatter Me).
Skandia, of you want to start small with Sanderson, he weote a novella. Am reading it now and it's good -The Emperor's Soul.
Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments I have both The Final Empire and Steelheart ready. Which one you recommend?
Ashley was thinking of doing the 2 hr tonight, hopefully she comes online so we'll know if she's going thru with it tonight.
You can do 3 hrs after her if you want to!
Noa, Karishma and I can play rock paper scissors on who's next. ;)
Gillian Murrell | 497 comments Can i read Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke 243 pages for page jumping?
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I am not sure I will be able to do the 3 hour one or higher. I can't guarantee I will ever get 3 hours in a row to myself to read but we will see when Ashley is looking at doing the 2 hour one.
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Skandia wrote: "I have both The Final Empire and Steelheart ready. Which one you recommend?"
Definitelt The Final Empire!
I haven't read Steelheart so I can't form an opinion.
Done!
Howd you like Miss Peregrine's? I m8ghy see the movie but not reading the book.
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Noa, which sprint do you want to reserve? You're free to choose from 4, 5 and 6 hours lol.
message 1371: by ~~~N~~~ (new)
~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments 5, if that's okay.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Awryt. I'll take 4 and Karishma can take 6 lol.

Try The Emperor's Soul too Noa. It's short and a standalone!

Date: 8/7/16

Water for Elephants should be completed tomorrow or the next day.

Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments Thanks for sorting out my books Kat!

FYI - the 480 page book is THE NIGHTINGALE.

Is there anything that needs to be completed sooner?

I'll finish REAL tonight.

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments I have a list of 13 books I should read this month and I added it. I'm trying to schedule myself so I read those books I've been meaning to for a while. Hopefully I like The Emperor's Soul ^.^
P.S. The other book I'm reading, No Apologies, is a buddy read, so I won't be done till towards the end of this challenge, because of the number of chapters I have to read per day.
Would it be okay for us to bank the book for Wheelathon then if we find a book for the task No Apologies supposedly works for? We're hoping to unlock bonus rounds *fingers crossed*
If you don't like The Emperor's Soul, then I'm going to shove the Mistborn series at you ;)
Oh. Well maybe just have it for something in a bonus round then? Because it ends before this challenge finishes. Move it however you want.
Lol, I feel your Sanderson devotion
@Ashley, Awesome :)
Oh I thought just as the challenge ends. Yes for bonus rounds! Sanderson devotion? Not really. Just an average fan. I know someone though who's soooo into him like serious devotion.
Its a kids book really but it was interesting for most of it but i found the ending was abrupt. That may have been because i had been listening in the morning then had to stop for most of the day when i restated i got a couple of words and it was the end. I wanted to rewind a bit and listen to the last few minutes but decided to wait till i got home to do it. Sadly my audio was recalled by the library when i got home and now its on a waiting list lol
Too bad! I might just wait to borrow a copy from someone I know then, because I'd gotten the impression it was for older readers. You're actually the first person I know whose read it though.
I would, but I would freaking reorganize everything, because the bottom shelf is way too close for comfort.
As a kid, I really wanted a reading tree house full of bookcases. I mean, I didn't have a yard, and it wasn't nice outside, but I liked the idea.
And have you ever seen those bookcase staircases (I actually knew someone who had one)? They drive me insane, because the association of feet and books makes me fear they'll get dirty so bad.
When we lived in NYC, we had a spiral staircase and a bookcase that ran up the wall next to it - it was awesome - like a ladder to get at our books. Our apartment was two small studios stacked on top of one another so the bookcase was the height of two apartments. :)
I loved living in NY - but now I'm on a hobby farm in Tasmania - with sheep and goats and chickens and so much space. I wouldn't trade it in.
I've finished: Real on 8 July 2016.
This was my coach book.
I listened to the audio - but the most popular edition is the ebook with 293 pages
Real (Real, #1) by Katy Evans
I would totally love that bathroom minus the toilet though.
You should not have shown me that, right now i stiff and sore from my new job and i could totally go for a bath and a book :)
Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments I am the odd man out in the John Green sense.
I loved TFIOS. It was my first John Green experience and I read it on a whim, before there was much hype about it. I absolutely adored it.
After all the hype and the movie, I'm not sure I would have embraced it the same way.
His other books have been less interesting to me. Looking for Alaska was too cliche for me. I keep trying him - hoping for a gem - but I think I may just be too old to appreciate him. Ha.
In August, I am going to do some study - which means my reading pace will likely slow down. I'm warning you all in advance in case you'd prefer I step down and give my space to a faster reader. When I signed up for this challenge, I wasn't planning on doing this course - but the opportunity is too good to pass up. It's an intensive Masters Unit - with a 10,000 word paper as the assessment - so no small task. Please be honest with me about your thoughts. I'll still read a book a week - but maybe not more than that.
Kimberly, your NYC apartment sounds awesome! And no need to withdraw from WOBBLE. Just pop in and check what minimum books you need to read, secure your spot and come chat with us about mundane things from time to time. What Masteral course are you taking? I've been eyeing a postgraduate course too but it's so expensive!
~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments @Kimberly, I like NYC and that actually sounds really cool. I would like a place like that. And of course you should stay on the team!

@Kat, I like the upper part of the bookcase. I don't like the part that's in the the actual staircase/at the bottom. Though, tbh, with that much room for books I wouldn't be picky.

Hey, Basilisks! Just rolling by on my way to dinner. Congratulations on our all making it through the first week of Olympic Games with our legs and good natures intact. I hope you all found some great books among the toughest of the tasks and are having fun with your teammates (and us!)

It's a tough challenge, and that's no lie, but the road is a little easier with a good book and a good friend to share it with, and that's what makes a reading challenge fun.

Gotta go. They'll start eating without me if I don't get a move on and all that'll be left will be the leg bones. Not enough meat on those to keep a hungry dhole fed....

Have a great second week everybody!
