Everyone will start reading their books for Event 1, Heat 1 and Heat 2 at the same time. The starting time is on the 1st page and here.

Remember that you cannot start reading for any other Event until Heat 1 is finished

Are Heats 1 & 2 already organised? Can I help?

I don't know what to do...

Ashley | 1439 comments description

BATTLESHIPS HAS FINISHED

First of all well done everyone! We've have a solid start to the challenge and we're working really well together.

1. We have slightly under 12 hours until Olympics commence

2. Please check that you have added all of your books to your shelf and that they have been used

3. If you did not add a book please post in this thread ASAP

4. Any books started and/or finished from now until the beginning of Olympics cannnot be used for Olympics. They will be used for Wheelathon. If you want a break from reading now is the time!

OLYMPICS - Event 1

1. We still need to finalise our tasks for Event 1, Heat 1 and Heat 2

2. Everyone needs to read at least one book in either Heat 1 or Heat 2

3. I don't want to be assigning people books so make sure you head to the spreadsheet to pop in your options so that you read something you like.

4. If I don't hear from you then I'll have to just give you a book to read (and I really don't want to do this!!)

OLYMPICS - Event 2 and further

1. We need to start planning for the rest of Olympics

2. Everyone must read at least one book for Event 1, 2 and 5.

3. Captains have a behind the scenes spreadsheet running. You will all be granted viewing access to this so you can see who is nominated for what. You do not have to go to this spreadsheet at all if you don't want to.

4. Books will be prioritised for Event 5 - Create a Chariot and Event 2 - Discus (title and cover not pages). As these are "cover" challenges it makes sense to check books against this first as they will be the hardest to fill.

5. If a book doesn't work for a cover or title task then it will be moved to a page number task

6. Priority for any fighting related books should go to the optional coach books in Event 4 - Fight Club

7. Event 4 - Fight Club has reading sprints. These will need to be completed in order. No details are to be posted here on your reading. You must send a private message to Mod Account with their Round, Date, Times (start & finish) & Page Counts (start & finish). Any Rounds sent to any other mods/mentors will be grounds for disqualification!

8. If you are confused with the above the please check with a Captain

Where do I go to put in my options?

message 1005: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments Just type them in somewhere on the spreadsheet. Shorter books are better!

message 1006: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments I'm not sure if you've been given access - can you PM me your email?

Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments I've made this shelf: goodreads.com/review/list/10858446-ki...

I'm feeling a bit dumb. I can't figure out where to put them on the sheet.

Can you please change the read date? It's showing as 2nd July :)

Gillian Murrell | 497 comments Trying to make a shelf while at work it will be a slow process i'm afraid :(

message 1010: by Ange (new)

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments I did finish it this morning when I woke (my 2 July) but I'll change it to the 1st.

message 1011: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments Oh right...we are on July 2 (sorry I thought it was the 1st today!!). Leave it as is then :)

message 1012: by Ange (new)

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Hey Kimberly, check to see if any of your books fit any of the ones that have already been entered in either leg 2 or leg 3 (we have sorted leg 1) and put your name in the column next to it, alternatively you can start a new relay or add books to the end of start of ones that have already been added. The ones coloured red have already been organised but we still have two more lots of leg 2 and one more of leg 3 to choose. Hopefully this makes sense :)

message 1013: by Ange (new)

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Ive had a quick look at your list and for example Girl in a band could fit as number 7 under leg 3

message 1014: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments I'm happy to switch books around for the heats that we have though...Mine are longer than I'd like for this task!

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments Okay, I'll keep using this thread, but I'm going to assume it's okay to leave my other book where it is.
You're a star! Thank you.
I'll set aside Girl in a Band for the heat.
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Noa, I saw you've got The Scarlet Pimpernel in your TBR. I LOVE that book!! One of my all time favorites.
message 1028: by Ange (new)
Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments my TBR pile just got bigger :)
message 1029: by ~~~N~~~ (new)
~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments @Kimberly, I'd suggest it, whether you read it for the challenge or not. It is about abuse though, so definitely do not read it if you're uncomfortable with the topic. You get into the mind of the character so well. Now I really want to reread.

@Kat, Then I'll make it the next book I start. It can count for the 100-150 pages in Event 2. I don't know much about it, but I have a pile of classics I need to read.

message 1030: by ~~~N~~~ (new)

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments Oh, never mind. It's listed as 336 pages. Grabbed the book, and I must have started it at some point, because I have a bookmark halfway through.
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Found several books under 200 pages
Destroy Me (Mafi) 109 pp
Maybe Not (Hoover) 130 pp
A Beautiful Wedding (McGuire) 146 pp
Night of Cakes and Puppets (Taylor) 100 pp (found a link to read online, same site as Ashley's)
I'm trying to finish my book before WOBBLE started, and I find I couldn't concentrate.
Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments Sry captains for another question, but I didn't find this info - do we receive bonus points for reading BOMs like it has been in previous NBRC challenges ?
I'm ready to start reading for OG in about three hours! It's beautiful summer day here and I can't wait to lounge on my terrace and read!
Elspeth | 101 comments There's so much to catch up on! Ahhh!
So, my shelf is here: Up Next.
I want to start reading for Olympics when it starts in a couple hours but don't know what to start with. Which books are we doing for leg 2? I could read Redemption in Indigo for the Road-->Redemption chain. Or Garden Spells for the first chain on the sheet.
I'm so excited! We have so many good suggestions it's hard to pick one!
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments with leg 1 of the first heat, instead of Good omens which is 400+ pages, I could read Good Girl which is 220 pages. i could easily finish it in a couple of hours probably before i went to bed tonight :-)
I think you can go for it! We were just talking about the same slot with Kathleen and she was ok to change it with somebody
oops - we were talking about another book but in the same chain but still, it's a good book to connect anyway
Good to know! It sounds really good from the description and I used to live in North Carolina so I think I'd find it really interesting.
Coolies - I figure the quicker we get the event one out of the way, the quick we can start on the rest of the events.
Think the two legs for 7 books have all been used now, so you will need to check in with Ashley before you start reading to see what you can use for leg 2 before you start reading Girl in a band as this might have to change.
Great - I'm happy for this. Karishma has other books that she can focus on for Heat 1
Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure what I am supposed to be doing...
I **think** I am assigned a book in leg 3 of Heat 1. I have downloaded my allocated book and am ready to go with it. I have commented on the sheet and sent Ash a message.
I'm going to go finish the book I am reading now (NYPD Red 3) so it can be used for Wheelathon when we get there and so I'm ready to go.
I'll check in later.
