Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments OMG OMG I have internet Bacck!

I can Bold! I can Italicise!

I can Add LINKS to the books I'm reading, like The Last Town by Blake Crouch which I am reading right now!

The Last Town (Wayward Pines, #3) by Blake Crouch
shelved as mystery by 95 people (D3)
shelved as fantasy by 29 people (G2/G5)
shelved as science fiction by 161 people (E7)

I've been feeling so disconnected...

Edit: I can even edit my post to add how excited I am that I can scroll through messages to see the battleship board and the spreadsheet and posts from you all. :) :)

Further edit: I've just reviewed the spreadsheet and see I am supposed to be able to read 12 books a month... That would be a stellar month for me (like this one) - but it's certainly not common. I am confused about how the team count was made. I struggle to read 110 books each year (which is more like 9-10 books per month). I feel as if I somehow allowed our team to get short-changed. :(

I think that's because the options were '1 book per week' or '2-3 books per week'. I'm a solid 2 books per week gal...

Hopefully we'll get a more prolific reader to even us out.

As much as I enjoying this online experience. I'm off to read now.

Night night team.

Ashley | 1439 comments Hi Team - we sunk a ship at G7 so will need a replacement guess for H7. We also have two bonus guesses :) Have a chat and we can figure out how to best use these.

I entered 9 co-ords and we got 8 hits and only 1 miss. Well done :D

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Woohoo! *off to take a look*

Don't worry too much. We just took the higher number for everyone (so 4-5 is 20 books, for example). In the overall scheme of things across all the teams it evens out.
The reason I've added that to the spreadsheet is to keep an eye on the Land teams progress. If the teams dip under 100% to goal, then that is when we look at adding a new player.

I hope that helps explain, please don't feel pressured to read more than you can!

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Thanks for explaining Karen! :)

Good evening ladies! Good morning to those who went to bed early :) Great news! We've got another awesome lady joining us for the challenge!

Let us all welcome Skandia !

Hop right in Skandia, we're stoked to have you. :)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments Hi everyone!
I'm really glad to join your team and big thanks to Kathleen for asking me :)

I've been picking up my reading again after short pause. It has been very hectic and crazy busy last couple of months but I have been missing reading and challenges so much.

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Woah all the fun happened when I was sleeping.

Kimberly so stoked you have your internet back. I once lost my computer for a few days because my son when he was 2 split water all over it. I was lost without the internet ... bad times *shiver*.

8 out of 9 hits we killed it. You guys are freaking amazeballs.

Hi Skandia very cool to have you on board :)

message 723: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments description

1. First (and definitely most important) welcome Skandia!! So glad that Kathleen has pulled you into our team :D

2. Countdown timers. Please note that there is a 12 hour gap between the end of Battleships and the beginning of Olympics. Battleship books have to be finished by the End of Battleships countdown and Olympics can't be started until Start of Olympics.

3. Lets go one at a time for our bonus picks. We should probably just focus on sinking one more ship rather than random picks. We could look at A4 - if it's a hit then great but if not then we know A2 is. Works for other co-ords too. Happy with A4?

Hi Gillian. Can you see if there is a new hit that you'd be happy with for Going Bovine? Need to complete the two tasks per hit to get 5 points.

Happy to use the bear book for; G-7 - read a book shelved as paranormal by at least 10 people?

message 728: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccaemma) | 85 comments WOOOOOHOOOOO! I can use American Sniper for I8... Authors name is listed as Chris Kyle. Checked Wiki and his full name is Christopher Scott Kyle. Christopher is number 85 on the list.

message 729: by Ange (new)

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments You could use it for B8 historical as its been shelves 10 times by other people. That way we can get the extra bonus point. Sorry Rebecca just stalking your book as I was seeing if I wanted to read it :-P

message 730: by Ange (new)

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments A4 is potentially a hit but we arent sure which way that ship is facing whereas the ships we know to be horizontal (the C1, D1 ship and the D10, E10 ship) we could potentially sink by choosing B1 and E1 or C10 and F10?

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I agree with Ange, better we use American Sniper for historical that way we get bonus points too. At this point, I think it's better if we concentrate on the HIT tasks (including bonus) and completing the MISS tasks we started so we can claim the points.

And I also agree with Ange re: battleship tiles.

Lol. I should've just said I agree with all Ange just said and saved some space! ;)

Good morning everybody!

message 732: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments Oh thanks Ange! I restarted what I was writing but didn't check the coords heeeeee. I meant the bottom. I was really meaning the B1/C10

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I think Nikk is reading a paranormal book which is book 9 in a series supposedly for E8, but I think we can just ignore E8 now and use that for G7.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I like your thinking Ange! I am happy with wither the B1/E1 or C10/F10 combos

I should finish Wild Things today and then I would like to start on Summer Skin which will F7,A3 or D1

message 735: by Ange (new)

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Look at us all strategic like haha. Wish we had another round feels odd just leaving a battleship game half finished like this.

message 736: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccaemma) | 85 comments I asked about using it for historical earlier in the thread... But Kathleen said it wouldn't work because I think it's shelved as "history" not "historical". I thought it might have fit there too.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments Kathleen, that's fine with me to pop it under paranormal. I guess whatever will secure us the most points :-)

Also do you recommend the Fever series you were talking about the other day? I am thinking about getting book 1 Darkfever

message 738: by ~~~N~~~ (last edited Jun 27, 2016 05:33PM) (new)

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments Welcome, Skandia! That's an interesting name. I've not heard it before, but it sounds so pretty. Where is the name from?
@Ashley, go ahead.
So if we're not doing E8 anymore, than the book I'm almost done with, Night Broken, fits literally every single new task except I8. I'm surprised about all the Sci-fi and Contemporary tags. What task do you think would be best?
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments @Rebecca: it wouldn't work for history but Ange was a great researcher and checked page 2 where 10 (yey) people shelved it as historical! So thank you Ange!!!
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments @Nikk: Yes to Darkfever! And fair warning, Mac is such a Barbie here compared to next books. Hope you enjoy it too! *cross fingers*
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Also, I saw on IG you were reading Kelly Armstrong's Cainsville series. If you ever get and ARC for book 4, do spill if Armstrong finally breaks the triangle I am so not into that triangle.
I have this slotted next to mystery at the moment - We will wait a little bit until officially assigning them just in case we want to move anything around :)
Changing everyone's plans here hehe.
I've put you next to F-7 - read a book shelved as contemporary by at least 10 people (16 people)
Thanks Ash for finding it a home!
I just ordered Darkfever and book 2 in the Charley Davidson series from Book Depository :-)
I still need to read Deceptions but I already have Betrayal on my bookshop wishlist ready to pre-order :-) Not holding out hope of an ARC of this though certainly wouldn't complain :-P
BTW just realised I haven't said welcome to Skandia
Welcome Skandia :-)
Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments I just realised that Coraline was my first five star read all year. Im a bit of a miser when handing out five stars as I think that it should only be reserved for books I would read again and that stay with me and make me think. How about you all do you rate five stars very often?
I don't really know how my ratings work haha. Sometimes I'm really tough for 5 stars and other times I have the mindset of "I really enjoyed that...wouldn't read it again but loved it this time"
