Um, who is the romance with? And does the lady die? And why did she make him sign the agreement? Given the time period (sorry for all you with modern PC ideas, but you can't just stick someone with modern ideas into the past. They will probably get themselves locked in a madhouse if that happened) a wealthy man was pretty much understood to have mistresses, and there was nothing that the wives could do about it.

Also, how long ago was "a while ago"? 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years, 20 years?
