The Toppler will be noon Saturday, June 18th, to noon Sunday, June 25th, EDT.

A few rules:
1. Books must be started and finished in this time period to qualify.
2. You may read any format - paperback, hardcover, ebook, or audiobook. For the last two use the page numbers on the first edition that comes up on the GR page.
3. Each book must be at least 150 pages.
4. Toppler books can count toward the monthly challenge, the group theme read, and the yearly challenge if they qualify.

Tasks:

In the US we recently observed Memorial Day to honor those who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Read a book in which a soldier, currently serving or retired, is a main character.

Boutros Boutros-Ghali - was an Egyptian politician and diplomat. He was the sixth UN Secretary-General during a chaotic time in the world.

I have a question for the magician task. I have found a collection of short stories. At least one of them is about a magician, all are magical otherwise. I'm thinking The Magic World. Would this book of short stories count for the task or not?

Question about was "written from a movie" - would Life Moves Pretty Fast: The Lessons We Learned From Eighties Movies work? It was written from several movies, but isn't the story of a specific movie.

I'm excited for this toppler. I have a couple of books that I definitely want to read already.

I'm going to say no for Buffalo Soldier as it doesn't meet the main character qualification. The Lion, Witch will fit an upcoming task.

For now, please only ask about books you are seriously considering. As you make your list/pile of books and start narrowing them down, you'll have a better idea of which ones you're more interested in. I also ask that you wait a few days to question specific books. There are more tasks coming that may better fit the book, or that may add more possibilities.

Check out Marion Barry - former mayor of Washington, DC, was recorded by the FBI smoking crack. Ford has been compared to Barry, but I'm not sure anyone could have sunk to the same lows.

Jmom, I'm considering reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe for one of the tasks. The GR search comes up with 206 pages. However, I have an omnibus-version of all Narnia books, The Chronicles of Narnia, in which The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe are 90 pages.

Because I don't have the stand-alone book, I'm not sure if I should count the 90 pages in the omnibus or use the first edition on GR.

Both! The book is big in size and there's a lot of text on the pages.. I was confused when I read the first book in the omnibus. I figured I could quickly finish it, it was also under 100 pages, but it felt like so much more!

I just checked my version that is falling apart from being gifted to me at age 6. It's 170pp with larger text. I would have put money on the fact it was 200-300pp. I guess I was smaller?

If anyone is looking for a short book that will fit the movie task for the toppler and a book for the Geo challenge for set in Argentina, check out Perla. It has flowers on the cover too. I just finished the ebook. It was 215 pages. It was 5 stars for me. Don't let the strange start put you off!

Jmom - for the classic task, do you have a specific date (like published before?) to qualify as a classic, or is it enough that it is listed as classic by GR readers. I have a specific book in mind, written by Patrick O'Brien that was his first book. It was published in 1952. Testimonies. It mentions the MC being sick, but I do not know if it is good enough to apply to "life threatening condition".

Cherie, 1952 works as a publishing date, so it would qualify.

I hate using GR reader classifications for anything, but will at times. There are people who would shelve a book as a classic that was published 5 years ago for their own personal reasons.
