ABANDONED. YA book where each chapter is about a girl doing something brave or strong

I'm trying to remember the name of the books I read as a kid where each chapter was a story about a different girl doing something brave or strong or cool. I think there were at least two books in this series.

One chapter I remember was a girl helping someone get out of a burning house. When she comes outside, she asks the fireman if she can hold onto him. The fireman says, "why? Are you sick?" And she says (this is the big reveal), "No sir, I'm blind."

There was also a story about a girl in Australia who saved a baby (I think) from some wild dogs.

Does anyone remember these? I can't remember the age I read them, but it was definitely elementary school. Thank you!

It's fiction. Contemporary, too. I only remember US and Australia, but now that you mention it, it's possible they were from around the world.
