Elle | 1 comments What makes you a book addict? Some define book addicts as those who prefer to read over eating, sleeping, and/or hanging with friends. I would like to hear what everyone thinks.

Cortney I spend a good amount of money on books, but only if my library does not already have them! I would rather read than do anything else. On slow days at work I read, in the evenings I read, when I am not reading for myself I am reading to my daughter. When I am not reading I am thinking about the book I am reading!

I enjoy pen pal reads! They are fantastic with the right partner! I join recommends challenges just to find new books that I might like to read. My TBR list grows faster than I can read a book! I look forward to winter so I can stay inside and snuggle and read and I look forward to summer so I can be outside in the sun reading. I'm not picky! Just give me a book and I will be happy!

Reading also increases my vocabulary and AIDS in my composition of some amazing e-mails and letters! Now if only I would spell check better!

Great topic. Love it.

I'm an addict because, well obviously, reading is super enjoyable for me. I majored in. I'm going to get my Ph.D in it. It's something my life revolves around.

But really consuming the lives of AMAZINGLY created characters, real and fake, gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. I love how you can be transported somewhere else even for a little bit.

I think it is a great skill to have and an amazing one. It should be taken advantage of.

Dawn (mcdawn73) | 74 comments I would say I'm a book addict. If I'm not reading a physical book or on kindle (usually one of each at the same time) I also am listening to an audio while traveling to and from work and while working.

I don't buy too many though because I'm poor. I believe very strongly in utilizing my public library.

I sometimes forego sleep in order to finish a book. And I do spend quite a lot of money on books, even buying books over music in the last few months.

~Teresa It's like breathing for me. Some people get grumpy when they don't eat on time .... I get grumpy if I don't get to sit down and read every day! Even if it's a short amount of time ...

Nick Green (nickppgreen2014) Concurring both with what Teresa and Aliysa said (I know I've commented before but...) even if I read a word or just one page a day, I know I'm making progress on my book.

sonya marie madden | 183 comments I used to read myself to sleep at night

Stacy | 15 comments I love everything about reading-- the feel of a physical book, the smell, turning the pages... then i love getting lost in a story, being a silent witness to whatever is going on, being drawn in and feeling like i am there, and seeing things from someone else's perspective.... i love visiting places for that moment in time in someone's life. I read throughout the day, whenever i can... when i eat, waiting for something, and before bed.

Nina Law I am usually reading several different books at one time. I don't go anywhere without a few books. My husband helped me turn one of our spare bedrooms into a library. We went to Hawaii over Christmas break and my carryon bag had 5 books in it.

message 12: by joyce g (new)

joyce g | 156 comments It began when I was so small, books were everywhere in my home. I remember one Christmas there was not one book under the tree, I truly thought I had done something horribly wrong. After that feeling, I always made certain I had a stack of books at the ready. It is a comfort to me to see books in TBR piles in various places in my house. Addicted, yes!

message 13: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 183 comments I have 200 books on my tbr still

message 14: by Mamey (new)

Mamey (mameysmedley) I am a book addict because I will buy a book after I've read it just because I LOVED it. I doubt I will ever read it again, but because I LOVED it, it must be on my shelves!!

message 15: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (spirolim) | 118 comments I am such a book addict! My symptoms:
1) when I visit a home, I go straight to the bookshelves
2) I have a reading schedule instead of a fitness schedule
3) Book hangovers are a common occurrence for me
4) I have my library card number memorized
5) My idea of a perfect birthday was spending time at a new bookstore

message 16: by Elliot (new)

Elliot | 2 comments I have to agree with Lisa.

when I go to someones house the first thing I love to do is look at their bookshelf. it tells you alot about a person what is on their bookshelf.

I am also addicted to the adventures that I can go on with books, the potential to just be so absolutely absorbed into a book that you forget everything that is going on around you. and when you come back to reality it takes a moment to adjust.

I found a quote that stuck with me which describes books so well " I've read more than 4,000 books, so I've lived more than 4,000 lives. everyone should have that chance"
