Omg, Boys Life, it's been years, never heard of that book before, found it in a book store and devoured it during a summer holiday in Italy. I loved it!! enjoy it, because it's one of those unknown gems that many people still have to discover!

I'm surprised you don't have any sightings to tell us of out in Boulder!"

Yes!
In Boulder I have only seen Gnomes & Fairies, but I have friends and relatives who have seen UFOs in Southern Utah & the Nevada Desert - the area I am from.

I own a paperback copy of Boy's Life. Sounds like I need to read it since it comes so highly recommended from such intelligent people :-)

You really must :-) It influenced so much of Dean Koontz's writing and likewise you can see how Dean Koontz's writing influenced The X-Files.

Earlier in this thread, I mentioned I was going to re-read The Magicians by Lev Grossman. I plan to re-read all three books. I finally got the audiobook for The Magicians from the library. If anyone is still interested in a group read of this novel, please post. I can start anytime & would like to start sooner rather than later.

Thank You.

The Magicians (The Magicians #1) by Lev Grossman

I am halfway through and loving every page! Have only read "Swan Song" by him have you read any of his other books? What would you recommend?

Danell (danellbookworm) | 685 comments So proud of my son for winning that award. He also didn't miss a day of school this past yr and got a certificate for that. This is an amazing feat, think he missed 5 days last yr due to illness. Thanks for all the positive remarks.

Love this group!

Oh Dustin did you see this?

I would like to give the first book a try. I know Christine had said she was also interested in a group read. When are you thinking of starting?

message 112: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I can start The Magicians at any time. I have a couple weeks with more free time than not.

message 113: by Danell (new)

Danell (danellbookworm) | 685 comments I would also like to read "The Magicians". Please start without me though, I have four audios from the library I need to listen to first. Make that five, forgot they called me today and told me I had one on hold. Normally wouldn't mind but feel guilty as the audios come from other libraries.

message 114: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I just finished The Little Paris Bookshop. It counts as a romance. I loved, loved it. Any book that takes place on a barge traveling on the Seine with 8000 books will get my attention.

Rachel | 3525 comments finished Dawn Dawn (Xenogenesis, #1) by Octavia E. Butler for the author challenge-gave it 3.5 stars but thought it deserved to be rounded up to 4 stars. It's a really interesting story about a woman who wakes up on an alien spaceship after a nuclear war destroys the earth. I don't read much of this genre so this book is a bit out of my comfort zone. It's the first book in a trilogy-looking forward to the next book.

For now though I'm going to start The Magicians The Magicians (The Magicians #1) by Lev Grossman

I checked for Dawn but couldn't find an audiobook in my library system :-(

I will start The Magicians this week.

The good thing about the heat is that I didn't want to go hiking because of it and thus I was able to get some painting done - my 20+Color Colorful Colorado Condo that I have been working on for over 3 years. It's so much work to tape off what I want to paint, clear the area and clean up afterword that I will usually say "Screw that- I'm going hiking!"

Hope your next book is more enjoyable :)

I heard a play was written for the stage in London about Harry Potter and it was put into book form-I think it goes on sale today. I still haven't finished the original series :O (need to read book 7).

Has anyone started reading the new Harry Potter?

message 138: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (darkstarcassidy) | 257 comments I seen that there is a play in London. I have to see if that book is at the library, maybe I will just get it on my nook. Apple for some reason gave everyone $13.00 to spend on ebooks.
