Thank you so much for sharing your experience of seeing Stephen King. He is my very favorite writer. The Stand was one of the first adult books I shared with my mom. I can't remember who read it first but I know we both loved it. Now that I have all the Bill Hodges Trilogy, it will be my big summer read! Again, thanks for sharing your experience. I am so envious!!!!!!

Did anyone see the television show? I was a bit skeptical at first but I really liked it by the end of the season. I plan to read the books sometime soon.

I think this would be a fun group read. I have some other books planned for next month but I'll try to fit it in. Let me know when you start :D

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments I just finished Heir to the Jedi by Kevin Hearne. It's set between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. It complete challenge 6. Luke is finally able to grieve over the lose of everyone he lost in A New Hope. Of course that's vague and I don't want to spoil the story. But yeah there is more to story.

I am now over debate whether I am going start reading the entire Zom-B series by Darren Shan or if I am going to finish Dream Thieves.

I did not know that Kevin Hearne was writing any of the Star Wars books. Good to know. I love his Iron Druid series.

Christine | 798 comments I just finished A Yellow Raft in Blue Water. It has to do with grief and loss. Its the story of three generations of women. The interesting part is that its starts with the youngest generation and goes back in time to the oldest. I liked how the author revealed why and how certain things happened.

I love hearing how King inspired others love of reading. He is a legend! "The Stand" is a great book! Have you read "Swan Song" by Robert McGammon? It has similarities to "The Stand", but different. I apologize for not responding earlier, been in a slump. Want to read "End of Watch", but also don't want the series to end. Sort of know what happens anyway, thanks to a King group I am a part of on Facebook. One person wanted to hear what others thought about the book but in the comments she told what happened to Bill Hodges.

If you ever get the chance, please reward yourself and see him in person!!! I still can not believe how fortunate I was with the whole thing. Between my sister getting tickets, the line not as long as I thought when I got there.....which was as quick as I could, left my hometown at 6:30 a.m. to met my sister at her house, 6 hrs away, then a 30 min drive to venue. There were some places where people were in line at 8 a.m.

I'm waiting for an audiobook of The Magicians to become available from the library. In the meantime I just brought home End of Watch by Stephen King from the library :-) That will be the next book I read.

I'm going to read The Fledgling by Octavia Butler for task #4 I've never read this author - should be interesting.
Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler

I'm also planning on reading King soon Finders Keepers and also want to read a book by Octavia Butler for the challenge. I've never read her before either but her books all sound really good to me. I think I'm going to read Kindred Kindred by Octavia E. Butler :D

I'm went with Fledgling because it's the one which my library had on audiobook & it had no other holds placed on it :-)

but I'm going to do the Stephen King book first because I know there will be holds waiting for this new release.

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Finished The Dream Thieves book two in the Raven Cycle series. It has romance as a major part of the plot. But probably the best part of the book is that book it self ended on The Fourth of July and well, it had fireworks and I got to that part as soon as the fireworks started going off around my house.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July!

The next book I am thinking about reading is Blue Lily, Lily Blue which is of course the next book in the series. But I don't think it will fit a third challenge so that'll be sad.

Christine | 798 comments I just finished a book Since She Went Away I'm not using it for the challenge but I thought I would mention it because early on in the book one of the characters says his favorite book is Whispers and shares it with his girlfriend. I know a lot of us are also in the Koontz group and you all would appreciate the shout out by David Bell. Its a good entertaining read. I got it as an ARC from BookBrowse.

I am currently reading Fledgling by Octavia Butler. I've never read a book by this author and I'm rather impressed. You might want to check it out to meet the author task. Fledgling is about Vampires, Sexuality, Family, Community and Race.

I was going to read Kindred Kindred by Octavia E. Butler but it wasn't for me-I decided to read Dawn Dawn (Xenogenesis, #1) by Octavia E. Butler and though it's still early, I'm really liking it so far-it's about a woman rescued by aliens. She and the other survivors of a war that destroyed the planet have a chance to go back to earth (but there's a catch).
Glad you're enjoying Fledgling Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler .

message 96: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (darkstarcassidy) | 257 comments There are 3 books in the series, kinda reminded me of James Dashner The Scorch Trials.

message 97: by Danell (new)

Danell (danellbookworm) | 685 comments Since the first book in the Divergent series is great might just have to read the rest of them. Jen was the movie "Alligent". My son and I went to see that one in a theater, which for us is a big deal, he won a $10 gift card from school for a citizenship award and used that $ to see the film. The movie was good. Never used Red Box, but that would be my luck also!

"Dawn" and "Fledgling" sound good.

Currently loving Boy's Life by Robert McCammon , not wanting this adventure to end. Second book I have read by him.

You must read all 3!
Dustin the truth is out there somewhere!
I'm surprised you don't have any sightings to tell us of out in Boulder!
