SUMMER 2016 READING CHALLENGE
Please note that this challenge may post more than once as I got interrupted in the middle of typing it-I saved it and then couldn't find it so typed it over again lol. Anyway the challenge has 7 tasks so if you see another one with less tasks please ignore it and sign up for the other one :D
Christine wrote: "Looks awesome. I especially like the tribute to Prince. Such a loss!!!"Glad you like it, Christine! :D
I was a little obsessed with Prince growing up so I had to include a tribute.
Another great challenge!! Love Prince! Was sadden to hear of his death. I am going to have a late start for the challenge. Vacation. And I am willing to bet an adorable 12 yr old will not care to listen to audio books on a 16 hr drive.

Have fun on your vacation! :D
I'm not sure why the challenge is not showing up on the home page :/If it doesn't show up by the 7th I'll try posting it again.
At least this thread posted with the tasks so I don't have to type it up a third time lol :)
Welcome to the Summer 2016 Reading Challenge, everyone! The challenge has officially started :D
The challenge won't post to the home page-maybe Dustin can figure out what's going on when he gets back from vacation.
That is weird. I hope Dustin can help you out when he gets back. I'm in for the challenge and I plan on reading 10 books.
The challenge is now showing on the group homepage.
Group members can now join the challenge & set their goal.
Thank you.

I've used the same link for the past 4 years (the one you posted in the 1st summer challenge discussion thread in 2012) so not sure why it didn't work for me this time.
Hope you had a good vacation :)
Sometimes Goodreads makes changes and things don't work the same as they used to.
I had a great vacation. Looking forward to this Summer Challenge. Will sit down and look at it closer soon & choose some books.

Yes. 150-200 attended the Friday Night Swim Activity, Approx 150 attended the Saturday Lunch. I had about 60 to my Sunday Reunion, and two smaller events the following Mon & Tues.
Unfortunately, my flight was canceled due to thunderstorms and my rescheduled flight had me arriving late. I missed the Friday Night Event & Much of the Saturday Event.

OMG this one's gonna be difficult.... not that I mind a challenge ;-) so gonna give it a go.-update-
or not ;-) 2 of the 4 books I'm currently reading are already matching ;-) So tips:
James Herbert - The Magic Cottage (published in 1999 and involves a love story)
Dean Koontz - Life Expectancy (something with twins and has the word Nice in it)
may not be able to do all tasks, but the start is there.
Rachel, I just wanted to thank you again for keeping this group alive by continuing to provide us with fun seasonal challenges. I was looking at the activity for these reading challenges (discussion views & comments) and your 2016 challenges are generating the most activity that we have seen since 2013. Thank you :-)

Dustin Crazy little brown owl wrote: "Life Expectancy is my personal favorite by Dean Koontz. I recently re-read it (last month) :-)"Even though I love Dean Koontz and he is my favorite writer I'm having a bit difficulty with this book. no idea why, the way the story is told maybe. My favorites are Intensity and False Memory (but it takes a lot for me to dislike a Koontz-book)

I'm off to a good start......just finished The American Heiress. It has N-I-C-E in the title. Its ok.
Arrived back from vacation on cloud 9! Saw the man who inspired my love of reading speak in Omaha NE on Tuesday and still in awe! Got in line at 2:30, experienced a brief downpour followed by the need to use sunscreen. Although my sister thought to bring an umbrella what clothing did get wet dried two hrs later. My sister also made sure that I was hydrated, walking to a local gas station to get us water, hot day! We were 14th in line, doors opened at 6:00. As we were walking to the seating area my sister asked "Do you want to sit in the back"? "NO" I replied and people were laughing. The first row was filled halfway down so I chose the second row, isle seat. Perfect!
Yes, I will freely admit that I had tears in my eyes as Mr. King took the stage. I was also counting down the time until the doors opened. Who wouldn't? That was the fastest hour and twenty five minutes of my life and I would do it again, if ever given the opportunity! It was worth the twelve hour drive, thankfully my sister lives in Omaha and I spent the night there.
Besides seeing my favorite author I got to visit my hometown and see my mom and my grandma! The co pilot, my twelve yr old son, did not care for my version of "Somebody to Love" by Queen and "Bad Medicine" by Bon Jovi, so I decided to start the next day off right by singing "If your happy and you know it clap your hands" at 5:30 a.m. Mean Mom! HA HA HA!!
Hope to start the challenge soon, need to make a list and pester the librarians! Hope all my friends are having a great summer!
I grew up in cattle country, the sandhills region of NE and although we have no corn in my area when you are a 5th grader spending the night at a friends house watching "Children of the Corn" you are frightened! You don't have to be from NE to be scared, just added to the intensity of the experience. http://www.omaha.com/go/stephen-king-...
