Questions (not edit requests) > some librarian seems to have deleted the original 1961 edition of The Phantom Tollbooth

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments I had the 1961 edition on my shelves. It's the one I own.

I now have another edition on my shelves and can't find the pre-ISBN edition that was there.

I'm tired of my old, pre-ISBN editions disappearing.

Is there a way it can be added back and is there a way to make sure it can't be deleted again.

Or, am I just not seeing it in the long list?

Thanks for any help.

I have little time to do librarian work for the next few months.

Renske | 12222 comments Adding a librarian note should be the most useful. An if the note is ignored, you can flag that.

It can sometimes be difficult/not possible to see the difference between a valid pre-ISBN edition and a duplicate.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments I'd written a librarian note and put a lot of information in the book edition description. It was more then sufficient. But it seems to be deleted anyway, perhaps a long time ago. Given that the book was published in 1961, librarians should expect to see some pre-ISBN editions. Old books with documentation should never be deleted, but they are. It's a chronic and too frequent a problem.

There is a 1961 edition (above) without ISBN, and several 1961 editions with ISBNs.

Sort by publication date, the most recent will appear first.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Thank you so much, Lobsergirl! I'm going to check to see if mine is there. I'm assuming the edition is there even if not my 2007 manually entered copy.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Actually, that's how the publication date list usually works but not here. The second to the last edition should be a 1961 edition and that's the one on my shelves but someone has changed it to a 25th anniversary edition. Some librarians really make a mess of the GR database. I have no time and less patience right now. Someday I might deal with my missing and erroneously edited manually added editions. Thanks again, Lobstergirl.
