SOLVED. A Circadian Novel That Takes Place In New Orleans [s]

I read this novel around 10 - ish years ago. (In the late '90s early 2000s. Although I would guess it was written well before that. Well done adult novel in which each chapter is written from the perspective of one of about 4 main characters and each chapter represents an hour in this particular day. The story begins from the perspective of, what I deem to be the main character: a woman, unmarried, in her late thirties. It is midnight and she has just gotten off her shift working at the ticket window of a local movie theater. There, tonight, she met a man with whom she has made plans to meet the following evening. Another character, is an elderly woman in the early stages of dementia. She has wandered from her home and is not sure how to get home. Another is a child. A girl who's family is expecting a visit from a relative. I also seem to remember a young man who works in the stock market?? Not sure about that one.........All characters seem to be from the same neighborhood. There may also be an hispanic woman.........
Any help would be greatfully appreciated. I loved this book and it haunts me. I I would love to read more by this author.

The gentleman that the "main" protagonist mat in the first hour/chapter is a sailor, I think..

This book was written in 1946. I was born in 1942 and probably read it in '52. It disappeared in one of my mother's cleanings after we kids moved out. I pined for it ever since then, but didn't recall title nor author! I read somewhere that librarians know a lot about books, so I asked a librarian I'd met on facebook, and she posted a 1946 newspaper review of the book the next day! THANK YOU, LIBRARIANS and whoever told me to ask one!
