maze runner question

The Maze Runner

I have a question about the maze runner.
I have red the first book and Thomas and Teresa are the last ones who come up in the maze, but the first one was sent up there like 3 years ago? and every month one boy is coming up. i thought that one boy per month ment that tere could only be 36 boys at the max.
but in the book it says far more boys run around and work in the maze and that there are a few who died in the maze.

can someone explain this to me??!??
or are there others who are confused by this?

I am dutch so don't pay too much attention to my language ;)

A big group of boys came up on initially. About 30-40. Then over the course of 2 years, one kid was sent up per month until the end where Teresa and Thomas was sent up. Plenty of people

but they say that someone... I cannot remember his name but that he was the first to come up... but maybe I didn't understand because I read in English and that's nog my first language!

I remember someone referring to another person as one of the first ones to come up. I don't think I was ever under the impression that one person was the first to come up. At first, I thought it was a group of 3-5 kids. In book #5 Fever Code, the Thomas saw the 30-40 kids go up at the launch of the trial.
