The Chronicles of Narnia (The Chronicles of Narnia, #1-7) The Chronicles of Narnia question

C.S. Lewis, hard to read.

Tampering with Classics just seems like a horrible idea to me. They're classics for a reason and I severely doubt that any modern writer could adapt an old classic into an entirely different dialect and retain anything but the barest hint of the power and emotion that made it a classic in the first place.

I felt like his lyrical, old-fashioned style went hand in hand with the magic of the story. I read a lot of classic Grimm & Andersen fairy tales as a kid so maybe the older style was more familiar to me. =)

If there was ever an updated version with modern English, I would definitely check it out. The idea gives me chills though!

Absolutely not! Stop dumbing everything down. Children actually do have brains, but if you keep simplifying everything, soon their brains will atrophy and we will have generations of morons.

Give it a decade and they will be wanting to translate books into abbreviated cellphone text language - everything 3 letters.
