When You're Not Reading a Cozy . . .

I'm about 200 pages in. It's almost time for the Olympics to start and crazy things are happening in Rio and the Police and Private are trying to take care of things and keeping it hush hush. It's quite good. I enjoyed the one about the London games also.
I have still barely scratched the surface on
The Shadow Rising by Robert Jordan I am currently at the 22% read mark. Over 700 pages still to read.I also knocked off another story in The Complete Sherlock Holmes, The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet.
I just started reading
by Jeannette Walls for the Ultimate Reading Challenge this year... So far it's pretty good.
Just finished An Unmarked Grave this morning. Tomorrow I am started The Pharm House: A Harding Family Story.
Well, I switched it up. Putting Sting on the back burner and am reading
. This is a Myron Bolitar book and so far it is very different from the others in the series.
Just finished Yellowthread Street more satirical than police procedural in my opinion, but entertaining enough that I have it 3 stars.

Oh wow. That is surprising! Most of my other GR friends seem to love it. I'll let you know when I'm done.
I just started rereading If Life is a Bowl of Cherries What am I Doing in the Pits? by Erma Bombeck. This book will make the reader smile and laugh even if it is from the 70's!!

This book will make the reader smile and laugh even if it is from the 70's!!"My mom loved Erma Bombeck. She got her start writing for one of the 2 papers that used to be in Dayton, Ohio, when I was growing up. I forget which one. Anyway, she wrote a column called "Our Girl in Centerville". They were always funny or would tug at your heart. Mom still has all her books and I remember reading them back in the day.
I often wonder what she would have had to write about social media, reality TV (which is far from real in most cases), and other things that have developed since her death.
I finished Vittorio by Anne Rice yesterday. Today I started Conspiracy of Angels by Michelle Belanger. So far so good.
Marja wrote: "Erma Bombeck can still make me laugh, after all these years. She was, and is, priceless."And timeless? I'd say she is.
When I am not reading a mystery (which is rare) then I am usually reading a Jodi Picoult or a piece of classic American literature
Finished Born in Ice by Nora Roberts Saturday. Enjoyed this one. Book three is slated for September reading.
Currently I'm reading
by Yasmine Galenorn, so far it's pretty good. It's more of a paranormal romance mystery.

I am reading a book not found in GoodReads database, written by a poet and frequent traveler to Greece. "Honey, Olives, Octopus: a memoir on the Greek Table" by Christopher Bakken and published by an American university press. We will be visiting Greece for the first time. I love this book based on the seasonal Greek table.

If you ever need to add a book youcan add the book to the GoodReads database by doing a search on the title or author's name. When the search page comes up if you look over to the right you will see in small green print "Manually add a book".
Thanks Karen, I thought I would get around to seeng if I could add a book. I looked under the author's name. Did you find it under the title, which I needed to do,
I just finished reading
by Yasmine Galenorn and while I enjoyed the first half of the book the second half was a bit too packed full of information for my taste. The author just kept throwing more and more plot twists into the mix, that I could barely keep things straight. I ended up skimming over the last 40-50 pages just to see who the murderer was before putting the book down. In the end, it was a bit of a disappointment for me.

Sorry to hear about it. I's in "The pila"

Currently reading The Call of the Wild by Jack London for another GR group. First time reading it. I started it yesterday and -- given how short it is -- am already halfway through.

Just finished reading
Under the Net by Iris Murdoch. Not quite sure why I like Murdoch so much. It's not the plot or characters, so it must just be her writing.

I finished
. Tough subject matter, but the story of Cora was well written and quick to read. My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am about 1/3 of the way through The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America. Really good book just wish the print wasn't so small and the line spacing so tight.
I'm on book 3 of Alan Dean Foster's Flinx series, Orphan Star. I read the first books of this series a long time ago but I never read the later ones. I decided I wanted to finish the series so I started re-reading from the beginning.
Started Born in Shame by Nora Roberts over the weekend, but didn't get very far into it, only about 20%.
