Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11204 comments 30.6 - Donna Jo's task: Generation Gap

This is a two book task.

Book 1. Read a book first published during the decade of your birth.

Book 2. Read a book first published during the decade either 30 years before your birth or 30 years after your birth. If you were born in the 1990s or afterward, you can still read a book 30 years before your birth, if you choose, or you can read a book first published in 2016.

Example: I was born in 1942 so I could read any book first published between 1940-1949 for book 1. Then for book 2 I could read a book first published between 1910-1919 OR 1970-1979.

Required: State the decade of your birth when posting.

Okay for book 1 would Sophie's Choice work? It is published 1979
For book 2 The Black Swan work? Published 2000, 30 years after

Jayme, Sophie's Choice work fine, but The Black Swan was first published in 1999 so it doesn't. I'm sorry that wasn't so explicit in the task posting--I'll get it fixed.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3040 comments the Gr page says 2000 but I will find another book

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3040 comments okay for book 2 would you accept Perfect Chemistry

Just for clarification, in case anyone else is looking and wondering how we decide this: The metadata for The Black Swan says
Paperback, 416 pages
Published May 1st 2000 by DAW (first published May 1st 1999)

This means that the specific paperback edition was published in 2000. However, it was first published May 1st 1999. In general, the hardback edition will be the one first published and the paperback usually follows a year later.

Dee, looks like your math skillz and mine are in tune. You can read anything from 2010 to present. Lots of good ones to enjoy.

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments If you have any questions (and most of you have not had) I am going to be away from civilization until July 26. I may or may not have access to wifi so checking in will be spotty.

Have fun reading while I'm gone.
