Anita Pomerantz | 9296 comments Please vote for the tag you would most like to read for June at the following link:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/52FKDWB

You may click on the answer choices in the survey to see a listing of books that fit each tag.

Remember, you may cast up to a total of 10 participation points for your choice. Everyone gets one vote for free so please vote even if you don't have any participation points!

You can see how many participation points you currently have in the spreadsheet below:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Happy voting! Please cast your votes by 12 pm EST on 05/23.

Note: If no one choice receives more than 50% of the vote, people who chose the least popular choice will be asked to recast their votes for one of the remaining two options.

I'm not sure if I have any participation points - neither of the Kates on the schedule seem to be me (I only joined in February) - so have just launched my single vote into the SurveyMonkey ether ...

Hi Kate!

Looking through your comments, you definitely should have some participation points. I probably gave them to the other Kate by mistake. I will add you to the participation points spreadsheet as Kate from New Zealand and try to ascertain how many points you should have!

Let me know if you want to re-vote. I think I can delete your vote, and you can try again using points if you wish.

No worries, Anita - that's what comes from having a common username! I won't worry about re-voting: I'll just stash any points you find for next time (mwahahahaha)

Back in Shelfari days I found that To Kill a Mockingbird had the "zombie" tag (or was it "vampires" ... whatever it was it was weird)

And The Help was tagged both "Italy" and "India" ...

Never say never in PBT!! This is the most eclectic and well-read group of people I've come across :)

Oh I agree. It always has been an awesome group. I just know that even with this eclectic group my taste is typically not the majority.

There's really no prohibition on discussing, advocating, or sharing your voting choice, but oddly, we never seem to do it! Now, I'm so curious what you chose that I'm going to actually go look . . .one of the perks of being an admin ;)

There was a time at Shelfari where every book was tagged Twilight, or vampire. I think it was mostly kids - and there were quite a large number of young teens in groups there- that tagged the books tryng to make it a Top 200 tag

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2599 comments Voted. Question: am i the only one who has trouble finding the lists of shelves? I even wrote to GR and it seems so convoluted! The way she described it, you have to enter a wbole new address, its not available from within the site? That just seems crazy!

message 34: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments You are not the only one, Barbara! I still struggle with this and only seem to stumble upon the lists.

I still can't find the list of shelves ordered by popularity...

message 35: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9245 comments Yes, one of the gripes here at Goodreads! Some things, such as the poll feature, can be wonderful (not so much with our kind of voting here), but the shelf system is rife with difficulties.

message 36: by Kimber (new)

Kimber (kimberwolf) | 845 comments You do have to type it in, but

https://www.goodreads.com/shelf

takes you to the page with the shelves listed in order of popularity, and there's a search window to look for a particular shelf there too.

I think it's weird, too, that you can't access it from the menu bar.

message 37: by Ladyslott (last edited May 21, 2016 08:38AM) (new)

Ladyslott | 1880 comments I just wish there was a way to search multiple shelves as we could do at Shelfari. I tag all the books I own with my initials. If I could search that tag with the tag (shelf) of the month it would be so much easier to find out which books I own would possibly work. The last two tags were easy - series and female author but trying to look through what books I may already own that fit our potential three tags this month has not been easy, one of the possibilities had 18000 books. After going through the first 5 pages I found one book that fit and I am sure there are more. I just find it frustrating. Even the ability to sort the shelves in alphabetical order for a book I think might potentially fit would be helpful, one book I think might work has eight pages of shelves in most popular, and the print is small so it's tedious to go through for every book I might consider.

I do link to the shelves for each potential tag right from the poll, so you can access them more easily.

Otherwise, I do what Kimber does and type in:

www.goodreads.com/shelf and then search for the one I want.

But I agree with Linda that it is harder to find books that fit the tags . . .I just scroll through page after page to get a sense of what options I've got that truly fit. Usually a few pop up.

LibraryCin | 11719 comments For anyone who keeps their shelf updated at LibraryThing, you can do what they call a "tagmash" to combine a search for multiple tags.

message 40: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4102 comments Perhaps a topic for a specific thread, but prompted by the discussion above ... do you use Goodreads as a way of logging your TBR list? (Or, as Linda suggests, even logging all the books in your library? I'm not sure how to tag books with my initials, but I'll check it out and experiment!)

I am such a newbie - all I've done so far is log the books I've read since I joined the Goodreads site in February, and started to build a "want to read" list based on PBT colleagues' recommendations and reviews. But it seems like it has a lot more potential than that as a library management system (despite shelving issues).

I'm fairly sure that most of the people in the group that migrated over from Shelfari logged all their TBR books - usually books owned.

I have added exclusive lists, so I have currently reading, to read, own, and wishlist. My to read books are my library books.

By adding shelves called las - my initials - I can tag books I own and want to read and that would help with searching with the monthly shelf - if we could search with multiple shelves here. But we can't
