Aside from the fact that they both happened in Australia, pretty close together in time and space, what other factor do the serial-murder cases of Arnold Sodeman and Eddie Leonski have in common?

Both executed by hanging at Pentridge Prison.
Not what I was after! This is more like a psychology question. BZZT!
Both came from dysfunctional families with a history of mental illness.

They both had drinking problems, confessed to the crimes, raped and strangled their victims and had a co-worker (in Leonski's case, a fellow soldier) give evidence against them.
You're narrowing it down nicely, but...BZZT!
Both were very drunk each time they killed their victims. Also, although both were judged to be sane and guilty at trial, noted psychologists have said they were definitely insane. Both had "mother" issues too...big ones.
This is about the crimes themselves, though...BZZT!
Oh, how about this....They both wanted to shut up their victims' voices...one to silence them and the other to "possess" their voice.
