Well, I was right about his wife dying in childbirth, just premature about which child. Poor Uthred.

It seems like Asser put the 'prophet' up to calling her the Devil's whore. Can't say I'm shocked he killed him.

The aftermath is going to be bad though.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I got kind of confused at the start of this with WHEN it was. He talked about Alfred being old, etc., so I thought some time had passed. Then he saw his wife and she was pregnant, about to give birth, and I thought wow maybe it is right after the last book. So I was glad when he finally said it had been 4 years since he'd seen Alfred's daughter - I finally had a context!
And yes, only bad can come from this.

Yeah. He's got strange ideas about young and old. I think he's like 35 now, but calls himself young because the narrator is him at an older age. But alfred is probably in his 40's and he calls him old.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I guess that reflects real life. My ideas about young and old have changed a ton!

Ctgt | 629 comments It may have to do with Alfred being sickly, henjsuts seems older?

Yeah, not to mention maturity level.

Kat | 1178 comments I don't trust Haesten. And that mad monk must have been fed the stuff about Gisela by Asser.

Suzanne | 1582 comments Yeah I agree - there is no way the mad monk did it on his own.

message 10: by Kat (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kat | 1178 comments Either Asser or Erkenwald. He was Asser's pet monk, but Erkenwald knew Gisela and would know Skade is hanging around Uhtred's kitchen.
