Don't forget....if you are reading a chunks tee, please do a progress update today or tomorrow. This will show that you are less than 50% done with your book.

message 52: by Tawallah (new)

Tawallah | 104 comments Hi JoLene, one of my books may be an issue.
The mass paper back version of The Chrysalids by John Wyndam is 200 pages. Is this version the one to use? There are other paperbacks at 199 pages which doesn't meet the requirement for this challenge.

If not, I'll change it out after my first 5 read books.

message 53: by Wanda (new)

Wanda (wanda71) Just a clarification. Are non-fiction history books allowed for this challenge. I realize that I cannot claim the HF bonus but was wondering if I could use non-fiction?

message 54: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
@June, we go by the popular version, which is the version that comes up when search. Luckily for you, it's the 200 page one, so read away!!

@Wanda, you may read any genre for this challenge, but non fiction just doesn't get the Historical fiction bonus as you thought.

EVERYONE! You are not allowed to edit your lists.

I have noticed that a couple of you have edited your post. For this challenge, once a month you will be allowed to edit.

You do not have to call out the mod bonus books, you can just put them in your scoring thread.

As of 6/18, I have made copies of your list so you can edit them....

message 57: by Donna (new)

Donna | 216 comments Hi JoLene,

Are the Bonus tasks from the mod shelves worth only 50 pts max? Or do the other bonus possibilities add on to it like HF or the Summer bonuses?

message 58: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
You can take the historical fiction and page bonuses. You shouldn't use the summer task bonuses --- you can only do each summer bonus one time.

message 59: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
Also, I did make copies of your lists so if you want to mark books on your list as read, you may do so.

message 60: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) I just joined the group, but this looks like fun... So if I start on July 1 with my 25 books, will they receive 25 points max I guess? Plus any bonus points. Looking forward to it

message 61: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
no -- you can start numbering at 50 - 26.

message 62: by Donna (new)

Donna | 216 comments Hi JoLene,

If we have a book on our list, that is read but NOT reported, can we swap it out when it becomes SWAP TIME?

message 63: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
@Donna, I would say that really isn't the spirit of the challenge. But it's not something that I check for.

Gretchen (eab2012) | 750 comments Mod
Does Outlander count for the HF bonus? On Goodreads it's most popular designation is Historical Fiction but HNS has the other books in the series listed as Time-Slip.

message 65: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
Yes -- time slip is a sub-genre of HF.

message 66: by Christina (new)

Christina (christinahh) | 250 comments I have just finished my 5th book for the month (go me!) and I have a question concerning the mod bonus. Am I required to finish the June mod bonus book before July 1 or can I finish the book in July?

message 67: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
You can finish the mod bonus whenever.

Everyone --- It's swap time!!
I am unlocking the thread. This is a signal that you can re-arrange your list, but any books that you have already read are locked. You may also replace up to 5 books with brand new picks -- if you can indicate with a (#) for the new books that you are adding that would help me update my spreadsheet.

Example - Before
50. The Lions of Al-Rassan
49. Coraline - Read 6/15
48. The Rebel Queen
47. Guns. Germs and Steel - read 6/17
46. The Name of the Wind

After
50. The Name of the Wind
49. Coraline - Read 6/15
48. The Rebel Queen
47. Guns. Germs and Steel - read 6/17
46. Gone with the Wind (Sub 1)

message 69: by Wanda (new)

Wanda (wanda71) I just wanted to let you know that I had made changes in my reading list. I did not change any places but instead swapped out for 5 'new' books. Let me know if I need to do anything else.

Thanks

I am done editing my list (msg 12).

message 71: by Linda (new)

Linda Bridges (lindajoyb) | 846 comments I have edited my list as well.

message 72: by Cheryl A (new)

Cheryl A | 1054 comments Thanks for the opportunity to "sub" books - I had skipped a couple in a series and put one of the newer books on my list (and I hate reading out of order!). Anywho, made one substitution!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments I have a question. I substituted a new book to my list. I have the book read so can I go ahead and claim points for it?

message 74: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
@jayme, see post 63 --- already asked.

message 75: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Freeman | 219 comments Thanks I "subbed" 3 books.

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments What is the deadline for changes? I'm not sure I can get to this tonight.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
I will lock the thread tomorrow July 1 around noon pacific time.

message 78: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Crampton (cramptonmargaret) | 8159 comments I think I missed the open time to swap books in the challenge! I tried to edit my list but can't. Maybe because I am using the app?
I would like to add two books:
The glass room
By Simon Mauer
And True history of the Kelly gang by Peter Carey to replace Up against the night by Peter Cartright and Black Widow Society by Angela Makholwa both of which I read before the challenge and so should not have been listed. I hope this is ok?

message 79: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Crampton (cramptonmargaret) | 8159 comments How do we score a book which is on our own list and is also one of the Mod books? Can it score for both?

message 80: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
@Margaret, I don't think you can edit in the app because it should work for you. Can you get on-line to edit?

No, if something is on your list, you don't get the mod bonus.

message 81: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
Ok.....I am locking the reading lists thread to indicate that your lists are locked. Please do not edit them until I post the next scorecard --- which means I will have copied your lists into my spreadsheet.

9. The Glass Room by Simon Mauer

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a quick question. I didn't get the message or notice that I could start my list at 50 instead of 25 since I'm starting the challenge in July? Do I have permission to edit the numbers or should I wait until August since it will affect my score?

message 85: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
@ashley -- yes, you can edit your numbers. I have your list copied into the scoring spreadsheet already.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments Question, I have read 5 books from my list so the mod book I picked from Jolene's list was "Throne of Glass". Will I still get the bonus points for reading the book even though the book is not HF? Do I need to read a HF book to get the bonus points?

message 87: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
You can read any book on the mod's TBR shelves. You get the HF bonus if it is historical fiction. You cannot get any of the summer bonuses for the mod books.

message 88: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
Heads up!! I will open the threads on Friday 29 - Sun 31 for any re-arranging. You may replace up to 5 books and move any books into "un-locked" positions on your list.

Once you have claimed points for a book in a specific position, that slot is considered locked.

message 89: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (last edited Jul 29, 2016 07:59PM) (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
JoLene Ramm Ok. Change time!

You may substitute up to 5 books and move any unread books.
Remember that any slot that you've already claimed points for are considered "locked" so you can't move or substitute books in that position on you list.

The thread will be locked again on late Sun, which indicates no more changes.

Please indicate which books you changed -- either with a substitute or move

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments I would like to substitute
slot 39 The Story Girl for Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate by Lauren Kate

message 91: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (last edited Jul 29, 2016 08:00PM) (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
That is fine, you can make the change.

For everyone, please indicate your changed with a move or sub on the line that you changed.

message 92: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Crampton (cramptonmargaret) | 8159 comments Jolene I have to use the cell phone app for this and cannot edit my list. I would like to make the following substitutions please:

46. Hotel on the corner of Bitter and Sweet by [author James Ford]

40 The French Sultana by Zia Wesley

39 Switched at birth by
Jessica Pitchford

35 [[book: The Girl
You lost] by [ author: Kathryn Croft]

33 Night Road by [ author: Kristin Hannah]

Sorry
I am unable to make the changes myself.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
I'm glad everyone enjoyed the challenge --- the rules state that you need to get books reported by Aug 31.

Since I won't have time to score until Sat, I will extend the deadline to Sept 2.

message 97: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 11 comments Just late dropping in to say I liked the challenge and its premises, although I didn't do well at all with sticking to anything on my shelf. Those team challenges with specific task that keep you mixing things up with stuff you might not normally read and such. But great challenge otherwise ;)
