SOLVED. YA 80's? fantasy-mysterious family in the South--many other "creepy" books by same author [s]

A mysterious and anti-social family moves into a Southern mansion. The narrator is curious about them. Turns out (view spoiler)[they are immortal and have to move as soon as people start noticing they don't age (hide spoiler)]. The same author wrote many books in this genre. I think they were contemporary in the late eighties, early nineties. Thanks!
