Luella | 0 comments This group may be for old books but here we are getting a shiny new fresh start. This challenge is for anyone who wants to catch up on old club group reads.

Rules are:
-Book must be started and completed in the eligible time frame (5/10/16 and 12/31/16.)*
-Audio books and e-books count as long as they are unabridged.
-You must post a comment(s) in the discussion thread when you are done reading.**
-The current monthly selection is not eligible.***

Fine Print Below:

*No books read before or after this time book will be counted.

**Beginning in 2016 the discussion are divided into weeks. The reading schedule is posted in the 2016 Classic Selections folder to help you avoid posting spoilers in the wrong week's thread. As this is a catch up challenge you could also just post in the final week discussion when you have completed a book. (Easiest way to find the correct discussion in the 2016 folder is to sort by topics instead of last activity.)

***Current members cannot count monthly sections from May 2016 onward. New Members may not use the current selection from when they joined onward. (e.g. New member joins in May so they can only count selections from 2012 - April 2016 as part of the catch up challenge).

THERE ARE PRIZES: Once you have read more than 10 past group selections you will be eligible for to win a book of your choosing (no more than $15.) Three eligible members will be picked at random.

Please Note: Make sure you go to the challenge link at the top of the page to post the name of the shelf you'll be using so you can tag to the books to count in this challenge. This how I will be able to see that you are participating. :)

Have fun. And happy reading.

Past club picks here.

Questions?Concerns? Post them below!

Kimberly | 145 comments I'm in. :) Where can I keep my running list? Should I start a new thread in this folder or a new thread in the Reading Challenges folder? I've also never used the Goodreads Challenges section. The other group I belong to just uses threads for each challenge. I think I can get it figured out, but I'll ask here if I have any questions. :)

Oh, and since we post our comments in the discussion thread for the book we read, how should I let you know that I've done that? Do you get notifications for all the discussion threads? Should I post a link to my comment into my running list? Maybe I'm overthinking this. ;) I tend to do that. :)

Hello Kimberly,

I'm so happy you will be taking on the challenge! If you would like to track your progress manually you can start a new topic under this folder such as "Kimberly's Catch Up Challenge" or something of the like. :) I have put a template in this tread that you can copy paste into that thread once you start it up.

If we get a whole ton of participants I'll add an alphabetized index thread so that everyone can find their link easier.

Also your question inspired me to add a bit to the rules thread. In order for the system to track you'll progress you'll have to create a unique shelf name on your personal bookshelf then add that name to the challenge link at the top of the group page.

If you need any help with that help me know and I'll walk you through it. :)

The discussion go to the top every time someone posts a new comments so I'll just check those by hand and keep track in an excel sheet (I can be super geeky like that.) Please let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Kimberly | 145 comments I'm not sure if I did it right, but I clicked on the challenge link, chose 11 books as my goal (at least for now), and created a shelf called "Kim's OBNR Catch Up Challenge." I see my progress on the front page now, but I don't see the shelf name. And, I used that same name for the new thread in this folder. :) Already checked out my first book for this challenge from the library. :)

message 5: by Luella (new)

Luella | 0 comments All set now. The shelf name gets absorbed once you put it in like a sponge lol and your left with seeing your progress.

Just keep in mind the challenge is set from May 10th til Dec 31st so the challenge will pick up books read during that time period.

message 8: by Jon (new)

Jon | 401 comments I just posted my own Catch Up Challenge, called JRB's Catch Up Challenge. I have some doubts about completing all of them, especially with ongoing new monthly readings. But I am only in it for the prizes, the glory, the fame of the ages, and enormous recognition. And then I will erect a building with my name on it. Believe me. (I must give my thanks to Donald Trump for all the self-adulation he taught me)

message 9: by Marta (new)

Marta (gezemice) | 214 comments I posted mine. Because I already committed to two challenges this year, I only commit to the ones I have already scheduled for other challenges, which is six. The other four I probably will get to next year.

I have been unsuccessful in getting my catch up challenge link (from my profile page and the bookshelf I labeled there) located on the main Classics Challenge 2016 page. I have seen Marta's, Rose's, and the others listed there, but so far no luck with mine. This means I cannot post updates on my progress in reading the listed books. Help!

Hi Jon,

I'm not sure I'm quite clear but let me see if I am. Are you saying that your link on the page just looks like this:

description

Instead of like this:

description

If so I checked out your link and it looks like this is the shelf you intended to use for this challenge:

jrb-s-catch-up-challenge‎

Go ahead and put that name in the box to the right of Enter a shelf name for this challenge

I did see your name in the list so I wasn't sure if this was the issue or not.

Or did you mean a post under the Catch Up Challenge - 2016 heading? In this case there is a template you can use to start tracking the books you read under this heading.

If it is something else please let me know. I will try to help in any way I can.

message 14: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 145 comments Hmmm... I can't see anyone else's challenge at all. I only see mine. Both on the main page and the group's "Challenges" page. Maybe it's the program I'm using... I actually don't see a thing through the Goodreads app. I am using Safari right now. I wonder what it would look like using Microsoft Edge or Explorer...

message 15: by M. (new)

M. (mnoelle) | 31 comments I can't see the challenges on the app. I can see other people's progress on my computer though. I go to my own challenge, and over to the right there's a button that says "view community progress". A list of the members shows up with how many books each member has completed. You can click on the number and then it will take you to their challenge.

No luck, Luella. I have tried numerous times to enter the shelf name that you saw in my profile, but there is still no entry for my own Catch Up Challenge anywhere on the Catch Up Challenge 2016 page. And I will be happy to use that template that lists all my 11 choices, but there is no page for me to do that. What am I missing?
For now, all I am doing is posting my reading progress on the specific book within my Catch Up Challenge bookshelf. That does not seem to be available to the community, as far as I can see.

That is so strange as I see your entry on the community page: https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...

I'll brain storm a little more and see what I can dream up. Do you know how to do a screen shot and post it as I had done in the post above?

Maybe you could send one here or to goodreads.com help desk and they could walk you through it as a browser issue.

The second screen shot you showed is what currently shows for me, with my own profile picture, etc. But when I click on the update link, it then shows me the first screen shot you showed. I have filled in the information multiple times for my profile bookshelf, but absolutely nothing happens. Maybe there is some account setting I need to adjust. Not sure. Maybe I need to expand some settings to include more than just my friends????

Jon, are you talking about this folder here?
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

If you are, you have to manually create your folder. Click on "new topic" and use the template to list your books. I can do that for you, if you want. :)

Got it done, and thanks! I had ignored that "new topic" link before. All is good.

You are OK, despite what everyone else says. (all in fun, of course).

I'm not sure I ever saw this error, sounds like a Goodreads site issue rather than a group one. Have you tried the Goodreads Help Topics?

Jenny (hbarjac) | 10 comments I just waited- seems to have worked this time :) thanks for the reply!
