James (zamieswhitten) Apologies for the use of "white trash" in the title. Okay, I read this book in the early 2000s. It was about about a family of kids who lived in a remote, rural area, possibly a swamp. There was an older brother and a teenage sister, at least. Possibly more siblings. I believe the parents were not involved and possibly gone completely. A wealthier, liberal professor type and his wife purchased a house or land nearby. The eldest son embarked on an affair with the wife. The plot ended with a murder, I believe of the eldest son by the professor type when the affair was discovered. The only other plot detail I remember clearly is that the younger sister had been sexually abused by a relative, possibly the absent father, and at some point she climbs into the eldest sons bed and attempts to seduce him so he won't leave the family alone and unprotected. I think the book had "boy" in the title and I remember the cover being blue with a swamp scene with a canoe. I also remember the back cover copy being way too cheerful and misleading for what was a pretty bleak novel. Please help me find this book, it wasn't really any good but it burns me up having read it and not having it accounted for on goodreads!

Was it a big name author or someone very obscure? Possibly self published?

Not self-published, it was a cast-off from my mother so it could have come from anywhere but she didn't really do self-published books. I also remember the cover and back looking more professional than self-published tends to.
