Red Queen Readalong : Week 1 {{Only for those who participate with me}}

Hey Lin.
As you probably realized, I finished the first seven chapters. I'll wait for you until you do too. I will be reading Suspended until you do :)
Do you like Mare so far? Kilorn? Gisa? What do you have to say about the writing? Does the plot remind you of other books?

[Lin]

I only have one chapter left for this week so yes I will definitely catch up. So far I like Gisa, wise and careful for her age. What do u think so far? Any favourite characters? Any favourite Silver powers?

[Lin]

I wouldn't say this book reminds me of other books because although it has a corrupt society and ruler, it has superpowers in it. Also the division of colour blood: normal red or metallic silver.

Well, I like Gisa a lot to be honest. And Mare. I love the entire family :D
I like the book a lot so far. Favorite silver power probably is either the greenies or the whisper. I agree about the book, some say it has 'stolen' stuff from the hunger games but I think it does have some really original ideas

My favourite silver power would be the freebies as well

XD Yeah I do
I agree he is shady but he seems like a pretty cool character. I also believe that Mare's suspicion of him being part of the Scarlet Guard are true.

Yes definitely. He doesn't seem like a person to talk about sunsets, must've been a warning but in code so his letter can be sent without any suspicions

Yeah, or without his family being put in danger. I guessed that Cal was the prince from the start. Also, I keep having this feeling that Mare has Silver powers she doesn't know about. When she was drowned by the nymph, she said that the air around her felt electrified and that was when the water stopped. Plus, when she felt that needle pain in her body and suddenly electricity came back...all these things must be some clues for something I believe. What do you think?

I do think she has silver powers too, maybe that what makes her a red queen? Not sure but I'm guessing from the title.

Also I never suspected Cal for some reason. I was wondering why he was suddenly there, thinking of him like a one off character but no he will play a bigger part

Well, if we except the incident in the Queenstrial which kinda made me sure, I had suspected it from the first time. Also, for some reason it clicked to me that Cal could be the Prince

I'm not really enjoying red queen so far. I just think the writing is too light

And...I like it a lot to be honest but if you want to dnf it's totally okay with me :)
I mean...it is possible to not want to continue with a book. In that case, you can dnf it

I could listen to the audiobook but I'm not sure

It's okay but there are so many books I really want to read and if I force read that gets me in a reading slump. I might DNF but I will see tomorrow

The choice is always yours
We'll see I guess
I may not enjoy it after a while as well
Although I won't dnf it because I usually don't dnf books. Even if I don't like them, I force myself to read them (which is not always the best thing but I just feel bad when I don't finish something)

That's fine guys! I just want to ask: did you guys get the feeling that Mare had brown skin in this book? When I read it I didn't but then Victoria said she was brown skinned on Tumblr.

Really? I did not get that feeling at all:o

To me it just felt fake that Victoria changed her skin color because it's the "popular" thing to do. In Glass Sword Mare describes herself with brown skin but I don't remember anything like that in RQ.

Maybe for diversity?

Ιt does not mention a brown skin. It doesn't mention skin color at all, only that they were putting silver powder that was making her white

Maybe she's really tan from working under the sun so long (well stealing)
