Normal vs Uncensored vs Abridged

My understanding is that all of these editions would be combined. Expanded editions, such as Norton Critical Editions, get combined with editions that have no added material, so that a so-called Uncensored Edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray, should be combined with the main work The Picture of Dorian Gray.

I ask because there is a note not to combine in the uncensored edition, and my understanding is that it should be combined. Happy to be corrected if my understanding is incorrect.

How much abridged can an edition be and still be considered the same work?

I'm asking because the other day I came across abridged editions of Les Misérables (ca. 330 pages) which were combined with complete editions (around 1460 pages).

If they are the author's words and not adaptations, then they should be combined.
