Eli | 4 comments Science Fiction paperback book written for adults somewhere around 2005.
Set in a world where AI and nannotech have gotten out of control.
The first main character receives a book from her old friend which gives her skills, but after she uses them she goes blind escaping like some movie superhero. Bike's are grown on trees. A mothballed space program centers around children who have the launch understanding hard coded into them, so the blue group of children try to launch the red group unsuccessfully. An elderly couple escape (extruding facsimiles of their original bodies and van) after some years melded with the greater LA Artificial Intelligence merged consciousness where creativity was nearly unlimited. The book ends with one of the few remaining originally certified nannotechicians setting up a vat that will mature in quite a few years and set many things right.

Eli, is this book (cyberpunk?) for young adults/teens or older adults?

What's the main plot? Can you tell us more about the main characters?

Eli | 4 comments Yes, Cyberpunk for older adults.
There are several main characters who cross paths and show how different kinds of people make their way in this world where tech has gotten rather out of control. The first main character is the woman who reads the book and gets the skills to escape some people who want to control her in a kind of wild west setting. Once she goes blind and moves to Paris, her role is more quiet and a side note. The elderly couple who escape LA are another angle coming from people who have merged with the greater LA consciousness and go exploring the fringes of more human encounters at a rock concert in the desert. I'm trying to remember another main character who is an intellectual and is drawn to become part of the sentient symbiotic island with people and plants intermixed. Mostly people trying to make sense of the world after the tech singularity. The main character at the end, one of the few certified nannotechnicians is trying to set everything right with his strategically placed vats that will grow some mysterious wonders to fix things.

Eli | 4 comments Looking at the synopsis of her books, it does indeed deal with similar issues as the book I am seeking. Now I am invited down the rabbit hole of reviewing all similar authors.

Eli ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 176 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!
