Joseph | 2433 comments Finished Saint Camber and am about to start Camber the Heretic.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments I've finally finished the Daughter of Smoke and Bone Series! That's two trilogy finishings this year. Up next I plan to finish the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger.

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5193 comments Parasol Protectorate is definitely worth reading, despite some very weird moments in the 2nd/3rd books. I also enjoyed the Finishing School books for what they were, which is YA fluff. The next generation book was interesting enough, but apparently Gail Carriger has been ill and hasn't been able to write much. Not sure when the next books will be coming out.

Joanna Chaplin | 1175 comments I was expecting The Book of Strange New Things to be somewhat likeThe Sparrow, which I loved and was thought-provoking. But it was much, much more literary in terms of pacing and the level of action. That is, most of the activity happens in the main character's head and in conversations. I was disappointed in how not-me the book actually was. And there's an undertone of "the world is almost used up" that was particularly hard to take not long after Aurora.

I started the Finishing School books in audio, they are super fun that way. Sorry to hear Gail is ill!

I finished my audio reread of The Shadow Rising. I liked it more on a reread than I seemed to originally, but that first 20% is tough. Probably too tough if I didn't know it got better/enjoyed the later parts so much (My Review).

Unfortunately the series starts a rapid decline, with only a few bright spots here and there.

Phil | 1452 comments Just finished Updraft. It was a fun, quick read with some flaws. It bore some obvious comparisons in my mind to both (view spoiler) but with a little inconsistent writing. On the other hand, I found the setting quite interesting and wished I could know more about its nature and I cared enough about Kirit that I frequently was frustrated that she didn't tell her rival to fuck off several times.
Starting Bill, the Galactic Hero on the Planet of Tasteless Pleasure
