Myst (detetiv) | 54 comments Shoot, added: Bodyguard (Den of Thieves, #2) by A.M. Cosgrove

Though I may have to DNF Hell's Marshal (The Hell's Butcher Series Book 1) by Chris Barili cause there's just too much horror for me... I can deal with some horror but a walking rotting body? yeah.... think I'll stick with only romance titles lol

Badge, Book, and Candle (Bookburners, #1) by Max Gladstone - Review

I also took an honest look at my Netgalley shelf, and sorted a few that either would be on the shelf till dust & cobwebs formed mountains or those that are depending on previous books on the series that are on the TBR for more than 2 years.

Which improved my feedback a little - I am now at 75%, with 11 books on the reading list.

Time to get to the 80%, with actual feedback sent!

Well done Sonia. Sounds like a well overdue clean up :)

Myst (detetiv) | 54 comments Woopsie.... I blame Netgalley's loveswept email that just went out for most of these lol

Connie N. | 738 comments LOL, I saw that same email, Myst. But I was feeling strong today and deleted it before I had a chance to add anything to my list. I was especially tempted by the Kelly Jamieson one though, since I like her.

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I get emails from Sourcebooks Casablanca and most have several books that you can get with just the click of a link. It is so hard to resist!

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Had a bad day today. Got an email from NetGalley, clicked on the link and ended up requesting 4 books that weren't even on the email. I'm kind of hoping I don't get them as I feel like I have too many.

message 113: by Connie N. (last edited May 12, 2016 12:33PM) (new)

Connie N. | 738 comments Good reviews, Kazen and Karsyn, even though both have such different ratings. I would think the publishers/authors would find them both very helpful.

I love this challenge! It's making me feel less alone about receiving NetGalley books and reading/reviewing them with no feedback or acknowledgement.

message 114: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 738 comments LOL, Alison, true confessions. I know how you feel; it's happened to me more than once.

message 115: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I blame the emails :) I think they know if you haven't been on in a couple of days and send them to tempt you.

That's why I try not to open them! I still get sucked in most times though. :)

mali (backtoreads) NetGalley Review

The Girls by Emma Cline 2 star review really short review because I was at lost at what to say and the book was disappointing.

message 119: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3596 comments I'm way behind where I planned to be this month. :/ I'm halfway through The Art of Not Breathing though. I'm still not sure what to think of it. There are parts that are really good and parts that are not so good. I'm hoping the second half is better.

I would like to finish that one and Lilac Girls this month. At least I've been much better about not requesting this month.

Sorry you didn't like it. That's disappointing. Your link doesn't seem to be working though. It just brings me back to this page.

message 121: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 738 comments Interesting, Xayuru, since it has a fairly high rating of 4.05 stars, with lots of rave reviews. But I'm usually like you and don't agree with the hype.

message 122: by mali (new)

mali (backtoreads) @kristie oops that's so embarrassing, I messed up the html I'm used to BBCode and arg but I fixed it now~
also lilac girls sound so interesting (mostly because I love anything to do with WW2) I'll be looking forward to your review and what you think about it in general.

@connie I know! I don't know why I didn't like it as much as every body else but ehh every one has different tastes.

message 123: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I'm about a quarter of the way through A Study in Sable (Elemental Masters #12) by Mercedes Lackey by Mercedes Lackey and I'm so disappointed!
Mercedes Lackey is one of my favorite authors but some of her later books haven't been as good as her earlier ones. This one is not very interesting and so far I don't like any of the characters. :(

message 124: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3596 comments @Xayuru - No worries! I like that you still added positives in your review even though you didn't like it. That book was one that I considered adding because everyone seems to love it, but, like Connie, I don't always enjoy books with a lot of hype. I'm glad I skipped out on that one. Also, I tend to enjoy WWII books too, so I'm really looking forward to Lilac Girls.

message 125: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3596 comments Looks like there's a lot of NetGalley disappointment here right now! Hope some of the books get better.

message 126: by Megan ♡ (new)

Megan ♡ (shelley101) I just got my first Netgalley approval :) Very happy about that. Do you guys have any tips on how to not let my shelf get packed?

message 127: by Kazen (last edited May 12, 2016 11:32PM) (new)

Kazen Connie N - Thanks for the kind words about my review! I just got back from (crazy) work and it put a big smile on my face. :)

Alison - Just keep reading, you'll be fine. ^^b

Kristie wrote: "That book was one that I considered adding because everyone seems to love it, but, like Connie, I don't always enjoy books with a lot of hype. "

Me, too! Sometimes I read a book and think "Eck, two stars! How can anyone like this?" and see that x hundred people gave it four or five stars. To each her own!

Megan - Excellent, welcome to Netgalley! As for not letting your shelf get packed, it's hard! I give myself a limit, only a couple of requests at a time and no more than two books waiting to be read. In the beginning your feedback ratio swings a bunch (0%... 100%! ...50%. Eep) but that's to be expected. We aren't even eligible for the 80% badge until we have 20 books under our belt, so slow and steady wins the race. But what a fun race! ;)

I'm curious, what book did you get? :)

message 128: by Megan ♡ (new)

Megan ♡ (shelley101) Hey Kazen, thanks for the tips and the heads up. I got Nina is Not OK by Shappi Khorsandi . Really excited to read it soon :)

Hooray!

Like Kazen, I limit myself. I generally read 12-15 books per month so I don't have more than 8-10 books on my NG shelf as I need to feel like it is achievable to read them in a decent amount of time!!
I also ignore the emails from Netgalley (sure fire way to request too many books) and try not to go searching for books on there until I'm back down to only a couple unread. Good luck!!

Kristie | 3596 comments Megan wrote: "I just got my first Netgalley approval :) Very happy about that. Do you guys have any tips on how to not let my shelf get packed?"

Welcome! And congrats on your first approval. I also ignore (most of) the emails. Otherwise, I end up surfing for new books on there all the time. It can be really hard not to request new books when you see all the new books on there.

message 132: by Connie N. (last edited May 13, 2016 08:36AM) (new)

Connie N. | 738 comments It's the emails that get me. Even if I only order 3-4 books from the emails each month, then if I don't read more than that, my number goes up.

My major problem is that when I first signed up, I requested tons of books, not really thinking about how long it would take to read/review them. Since I sent my reviews right away (at first), I guess I got put on the "we like her" list, so now I'm auto-approved for a couple of my favorite publishers. I let myself get talked into more books than I could read, falling further and further behind.

Limiting yourself within your regular reading capacity is the best idea, I think. Don't let yourself get out of control or you'll soon start feeling guilty (like I do) about not contributing as well or as quickly as you should. And, of course, you'll be able to read the books later when they are released. It's not like you'll be missing anything. :)

message 133: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3596 comments Connie - I had a similar issue. When I first started I requested a bunch, but didn't expect to get approved for so many. I got behind fairly quickly and I've been slowly digging my way out ever since.

message 134: by Megan ♡ (new)

Megan ♡ (shelley101) Thanks for the advice guys :) I'll try to stick to it, but don't know how much self-control I'll have

A couple more requests sent and a couple of read nows. Does anyone know if there's a NetGalley requesters anonymous group?

He had a chat with the presenter, plugged his film, then did a medley during the interval. Sorry think my brain has fried from the shirt ripping :)

Madeline (maddyd51)

I posted a review of Eligible (The Austen Project #4) by Curtis Sittenfeld finally! Almost 500 pages, but I loved it: Review.

Since I added this one Central Station by Lavie Tidhar (oops), my feedback ratio only went up one point, to 68%. I'm getting closer, though I requested more books, darrnit.

Next up: Will You Won't You Want Me? by Nora Zelevansky
