Jamie | 35 comments I'll start:)

Im married (almost four years) to a great man and I have two daughters, Alaina who will be three in a couple weeks and Braelyn who is 9 months old. I live in Reno, NV and am a graduate from UNR. I have two kids--a girl and a boy.

I have learned to really love reading--it used to not be my favorite thing. Now some of my favorite books are the classics (particularly Charles Dickens).

I like to swim, eat sushi, and be outdoors.

message 4: by Alexia (new)

Alexia Hello, I am Alexia, I actually live in California, a small town called Hollister. I am a mother of one fantastic little boy and have been married for almost three years. I grew up in Idaho, but moved here about ten years ago. I too love reading and am always excited to find communities like this. Look forward to interaction with you all.

Janell | 2 comments I live in Bakersfield, CA and am happily happily married with two kids a girl 3 1/2 and a cute boy who is 6 months!! I can't believe how time flies. I have been trying to find time to read, so this will be grrrreeat!! :-)

message 7: by Dana (new)

Dana (tigris) | 4 comments My name is Dana and I live in Calgary, AB (Canada). I've been married 6 years and boast an obnoxious 2 1/2 year old boy and a sweet 7 month old girl. I love to read but, as you mothers/fathers know, it's tough to squeeze in. I do maintain a book blog, feel free to check it out: One For The Books. (I apologize because the last book I reviewed does have a "swear" in the title.)
I, too, love finding LDS communities and look forward to your book recommends!

message 8: by Dianne (new)

Dianne Millard | 1 comments I live in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada. I've been married for seventeen years and we have a four and a half year old son, James. I love, love, love reading. I couldn't even begin to list all the books I've read, but I'm trying as part of my personal history. I don't think I'll list them all...some of them I'm not proud of, and some of them are so forgettable that they are not worth listing.

message 9: by Dana (new)

Dana (tigris) | 4 comments I'm with you on that Dianne!

message 10: by Whit (last edited Apr 16, 2008 05:12PM) (new)

Whit (whitlarson) | 1 comments Hello! I live in Logan, UT with my husband of 20 years and two teens (1 girl, 1 boy). We also have a cat. She is a pill.

I agree about not listing all books I've read (especially that Anne Rice period) - but I'm working on seeking after virtuous & lovely things and was excited to find this group. Thanks for starting it!

I serve in Primary (where I've been for about 12 years).

I have an LDS podcast ( http://MormonMomCast.com ) that really needs a new episode posted... but I've been having too much fun adding books here at goodreads!

Anyhow, good to join the group. :)

Whit

message 12: by Heather (new)

Heather Murphy (heatherscook) | 8 comments Hi,
I'm 28 with 3 boys and a husband that works as a Hospice Nurse. I love to read and get to do so while I nurse my baby. I'm busy being a mother and taking care of our large, drafty, 100-year-old home so I may not interact much on here but I would like to read your discussions and comments. It's just nice to know I'm not alone in striving to live a Christ-like life. My husband stopped beliving in the gospel a few years ago. It's pretty devestating to me.

message 13: by Becky (new)

Becky Hi I'm Becky. We moved a year ago to Eagle Mountain, Utah - from So. Jordan. Big move. But I'm adjusting! I'm an "empty-nester"..and miss my kids!. We have 6 children (5 boys, 1 girl). Two are married now with beautiful grandchildren for me to enjoy. Our youngest is serving a mission in Brazil, the others in various stages of college. I have loved to read since I was tiny..it is a great joy in my life.
I work part-time at the local library as the story-telling lady. LOVE this job! Thus..the posts of cute picture books (which I was already collecting!)
I enjoy reading your comments and will try to participate more.

Jamie | 35 comments This is so exciting. We have members of our group that are at all stages of life, from the brand new mom to the empty nester. We can learn to much from each other. And like we've already seen, support and lift each other as well.

Emily | 31 comments Mod
Terri--welcome to the group! Wow, you are the only member of the church in your family! Is that difficult for you? I come from a family where a lot of them are members and have always wondered what it would be like to be the only member of the church in my family.

message 18: by STEPHanie (new)

STEPHanie Collao | 1 comments Howdy! I am Steph. I live in Dallas, Texas. I have a husband, two plants and a strong desire to get a dog to keep me company when my workaholic hubby is gone 12 hours a day :)

My job is with a restaurant management company, and I am the HR Director. Luckily I only work 30 hours a week :) and it's across the street from where we live (bonus!). I love to read, of course, and I am also addicted to rubber stamping, digital scrapbooking, playing games and hanging out with my husband as much as I can.

I am excited about this book club! It's great to read about all of you above :)

message 19: by Teri (new)

Teri | 2 comments My name is Teri, I live in Ogden. I have been happily married for 14 years to the love of my life. I hope he feels the same, LOL. I have 3 beautiful well behaved children...hahaha, really they are beautiful and sometimes well behaved, mostly that is when they are with grandpa and grandma. My oldest is Erica 13, then its Cody 12, and then I have a 21 month old little boy Shawn, our blessing and gift from God for reading the Book of Mormon. I love reading just about anything and everything. I am excited to maybe get outside my box, by reading things I may not have chosen to begin with.

message 20: by Becky (new)

Becky Terri..welcome! Another empty-nester! Aren't grandchildren such a joy?? I wish mine were a little closer. They are in Nevada, and Colorado.

Welcome to the group, Erika! A PhD student in literature . . . that is amazing! What city are you from?

message 22: by Emily (new)

Emily | 31 comments Mod
Welcome Stephanie! I wouldn't mind a dog to keep me company either. How nice that you live across the street from where you work. At least you can save a little bit of money on those gas prices :). We are glad to have you in this group.

message 23: by Becky (new)

Becky Hi Erika!
Welcome! That's great you are working on your PhD. We have a son finishing his Masters degree at ASU in English literature. He's writing his thesis now. So much work! I am excited for you to be so far in your education. Thanks for recommending Sister Okasaki's book. I have loved all her other books.

Kayla Wagstaff (kaylawagstaff) | 1 comments Hello all! My name is Kayla & I am from Sandy, Utah. I have an incredible husband & a darling baby boy.
I began attending YW activities when I was 12, then I started going to Sacrament with neighbors. I was baptized nearly 2 years ago! The guy I was dating at the time, now a dear friend, helped me take the leap make the decision to start taking the discussions. I was then baptized a month later :) I have never felt happiness like this in my entire life! I love my Savior & Heavenly Father & love learning more about their great love for me.
I am so excited to be a part of this group & read new, uplifting books! My all-time favorite book is No Doubt About It, by Sheri Dew. Oh how I love Sheri's books!
I look forward to getting to know everyone :)

message 25: by Heather (new)

Heather Murphy (heatherscook) | 8 comments Kayla,
Thank you for sharing your conversion story. I felt so wonderful reading it. It inspired me to be brave enough to share the gospel to those that the spirit wispers to me are open to it. It is so great to hear in your words the excitement and love you have for Heavenly Father, His son and His gospel!

message 26: by Teri (new)

Teri | 2 comments I used to live in Logan about 14 years ago. I graduated from Logan High in 1992. Now I live in Ogden and I miss Logan but its getting congested up there. I miss being surrounded by the mountains.

message 27: by Tracy (new)

Tracy 10 things you should know about me:
1. My name is Tracy.I was raised LDS, in Southern California, but now I live in Kearns, Utah. (That's in Salt Lake for those who don't know.)

2. I serve as the Education Counselor in the RS Presidency. A perfect place for me, I do believe. The Bishop was truly inspired.

3.My husband is my best friend. His name is Mark. We were married in the Chicago Illinois Temple. We'll be married 15 years this year. Holy cow!

"It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages."
— Friedrich Nietzsche

4.I have 1 son, Sawyer, age 10, and 2 daughters, Grace and Felicity, ages 8 and 6 respectively. They are proof the Lord loves and understands me.

"Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them. " Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

5. I LOVE to read. Understatement of the year. I average 3-4 novels a week. Alas, my house is a mess and there is laundry to do.....

"Books to the ceiling,
Books to the sky,
My pile of books is a mile high.
How I love them! How I need them!
I'll have a long beard by the time I read them."
— Arnold Lobel

6. My favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip. Especially when smothered in Hot Fudge. Accompanied by brownies, late at night with a novel on my lap....

7. I suffer with Depression, Anxiety and PMDD. Suffer being the operative word here. I am actually surprised how many of us are afraid/embarassed to admit it though.

"When I am attacked by gloomy thoughts, nothing helps me so much as running to my books. They quickly absorb me and banish the clouds from my mind. — Montaigne (Les Essais)

8. We like to read together as a family. I read one chapter from a novel every evening to my husband and children. (Right now we are reading all of the Narnian Chronicles. We are on The Silver Chair) So far, Heidi by Johanna Spyri has been the most compelling, and we are looking forward to someday taking a family vacation to Switzerland.

9. I ALWAYS talk too much. Ask my visiting teachers. They have the hardest time escaping my house! (Although they say they don't mind...)and as you can tell, this post is way too long for a simple introduction. I promise, I usually don't write long posts.

10. But the most important thing of all is:

"I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying."
— Oscar Wilde

message 29: by Emily (new)

Emily (ejfalke) Howdy! I'm Emily, and I live near Austin, TX. I teach 6th grade Language Arts. I have been thinking that adding more church books to my reading list will really give me an extra dose of the Spirit (and who couldn't use that?), so it's good to find a group of others who feel the same!

message 32: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (backwoodsbabble) Hello! Hello! I am 33 and live in Pahrump, Nevada (about an hour outside Las Vegas). I have been a returned missionary for 6 years and served in the Netherlands Amsterdam Mission (wait! the name changed while I was out, but I think it got really long... Belgium Brussels Netherlands Mission or something like that).

Anyway, I joined the Church about 13 years ago and never have quite gotten into reading more LDS Authors. I have sporadically read some by the General Authorities "Go Forward with Faith" by Monson was great.

I am single and really looking forward to getting some great recommendations that I can go check out at Deseret Book over in Vegas! =)

message 33: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (carolynt73) | 1 comments I am 35 and I live in West Valley. I started reading Anita Stansfield books and have not branched to far from there. I have read a few other books by some of the General Authorities but like I said not much further than that.I joined this group in the hopes of expanding my reading.

message 34: by Serene (new)

Serene | 1 comments Hi! I'm 26 and live in Los Angeles, CA. I grew up just an hour north in Ventura, CA. I was married for six years and am currently going through a divorce. I've just started reading again. I went through a period of not being able to pick up a book due to lack on consitration or was it too much consitration on other things. Needless to say I'm back with a reading vengance to catch up on all the missed time.

Looking forward to all the GoodReads.

message 35: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 35 comments Were glad to meet the new members. We have been in kind of a slump lately, and we will try and be better at picking books everyone can get a hold of and posting discussions. I hope you enjoy our group!

message 36: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (backwoodsbabble) Well let's get this party started then! =)

Go grab all our friends and have a book choosing party! =)

message 37: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cmbohn) | 40 comments I guess I should introduce myself too. I am Cookie Monster. No, not really, I just liked that for my profile pic. My name is Cindy and I live in Utah. I have 3 kids, ages 16, 14 - almost, and 11. I am a convert; I joined as a child. Right now I'm staying home but I'm planning to work over Christmas. Last year I worked at See's Candies and I loved it.

I read all the time. My house is full of books. And some clutter too. I try to get rid of the clutter, but the books are staying.

My ward had a reading group, but it sort of fizzled out, so I'm hoping to find the same sort of thing here. I love seeing what everyone else is reading and what they think about it, even if I don't agree.

message 38: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (backwoodsbabble) Oh you have the best job! I love See's Candies!

message 39: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (blueyed75) | 1 comments Hello, I'm a 33 year old stay at home mom living in Lubbock, TX. I grew up in Orem, UT, have been married for 12 years have one son and am in the process of adopting our second. Living in the belt buckle of the bible belt means that I often miss the days of being a part of the religious majority. I'm really looking forward to discussions about gospel based books.

message 40: by Gina (new)

Gina | 1 comments It is nice to find a group like this. It is amazing the power a book has to change a person, their life. I love the gospel and am happy there are so many books that help us grow closer to the Lord and reinforce the teachings of the scriptures. There have been many times my life has been changed by reading a book a friend would suggest. A book that I absolutely needed at that moment. I look forward to being in your group.

message 42: by Heather (new)

I totally know what you mean. Good books inpire, direct and are even avenues for the spirit to reach us. It'll be great to hear your discussions on great books. This group is so cool since we all come from basically the same values and gospel background. What a unique opportunity.
Love, Heather

message 43: by Tina (new)

Tina (TinaReederBeus) | 7 comments I was excited to find this group. I have wanted to join an LDS book club for a long time. I live in the country, about 10 miles outside the city of Pasco, Washington. My husband is a partner in Beus Orchards. We have been married 17 years. I am a mother of 6. My children's ages are 15 1/2, 14, 12, 9, 5 and 1 years old. They keep me very busy, so I rarely have time to read, (but I want to!) I'm looking forward to this!:)

message 44: by Emily (new)

Emily | 31 comments Mod
Welcome, welcome! You are busy! ;)

message 45: by Heather (new)

Heather Murphy (heatherscook) | 8 comments Dear Tina,
What a great family you have. In looking at your picture, I'm trying to figure out who's who and I don't see any parents. Granted, you could be a young mother in the middle, but those boys definately don't look older than teens and you said you only had 6 kids. Is there a friend in the picture?

message 46: by Tina (new)

Tina (TinaReederBeus) | 7 comments Asia-
You have a good eye! That picture was taken at my nephew's baptism, he is the redhead in the picture. It was during the summer, so my husband was busy with the orchard and couldn't come to Utah (where my family is from), so he is not pictured.

message 47: by Heather (new)

Heather Murphy (heatherscook) | 8 comments Thanks for the clarification. What a cute fam!

message 48: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (autumn_corbett) | 1 comments My name is Autumn, and I was excited to find this group! I am from Las Vegas, NV. I have been married to my husband for 7 years and we have 2 little boys. My hubby and I were childhood sweethearts. (really young love =) ) I have been a member my whole life, and I LOVE to read! I don't have time to attend my wards book club, so this will be much easier for me. I sometimes have more than one book that I am reading at a time. One that I fly through and one that is my inbetween book. I am excited so have joined this group!!

message 49: by Heather (new)

Heather Murphy (heatherscook) | 8 comments Welcome to the club Autumn!

Kym | 1 comments Hi Everyone!

My name is Kymi. I am 14 years old and an active member of the Church of Jesus Chrust of Latter-Day Saints. I love to read, but find it hard to get appropriate books for me that are also challenging to read. I hope that I can get some great book suggestions from you guys.
