The protagonist is 13-ish yr old boy who develops magic abilities when living with his aunt and uncle in a small town. He gets these abilities from his great (?) grandfather who was an Italian magician that came into town with the circus. This tale also includes a flying wagon, an evil spirit, a bafflingly helpful Native American tribe, and a magic sentient tree that happens to be a family friend.
