I don't know if it is possible to find a little old book like this one. May be spoilers. It was about a man that was sent to a metal planet to take scientific readings to determine if it would be cost effective to mine. The gravity was so strong that first he had to undergo an operation to make his skin metal too. When he got there he found it was crawling with life. Lizards of iron and blood of acid sort of life. He also found primitive culture. After being joined by the daughter of the head of the mining company they found out the plan to kill all life on the planet, even them. The metal was too good to let be. I read it in the '90's. I'm sure it was older than that.

The cover art was an alien landscape with a big bubble. In the bubble was a woman with a mass of red hair and blue (grey?) skin.
