How are the four novellas connected? Are there any links between them?

I am afraid I only read two of the stories. I didnt notice any link except for the fact that I found them both depressing. I couldnt take to the characters at all so I gave up reading and went on to znother book.

I think there are a few links between them, they all have some connection to Maine, as I think most (or all?) Stephen King books do, although the last story, The Breathing Method is not set in Maine, Sandra's son is adopted by a couple in Maine.
Shawshank prison is referred to a couple of times in 'The Body' and in 'Apt Pupil' Mr Dussander had bought his shares from Andy Dufresne.

There are also themes of loss of innocence connecting them - Andy's after Tommy Williams' evidence clearing his name is totally disregarded in the Shawshank Redemption, Todd's after hearing about Mr Dussander's horrific acts in Apt Pupil, all of the boys but most of all Gordie throughout in The Body and Sandra after her abandonment by her lover in The Breathing Method.
