Lexi | 4247 comments Monster wheel is clearly one of my all time favorites as I’ve adopted it and some of the newer monster wheels. Also quidditch is the only challenge that has caused me physical harm due to fatigue caused falling down the subway stairs.

All the wheels are fun.. even the Wheel 'O Brown!😂

It was a very brown wheel! But also helped me work through some trauma from the WOBBLE wheel 🤪

message 1354: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12853 comments I looooooved the monster wheel.

Warships may have almost resulted in nervous breakdowns for some of the captains trying to herd teams 😆

In the end I didn't join in the more recent bout of quidditch, as I had some stuff I couldn't get out of, which would have made me a pretty useless teammate, lol.

Yikes. That’s commitment!!

UncoverIt! was one of my favourites it was just time intensive. Need someone with coding magic to make that happen again 🤭🤔🧐

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12853 comments Also the maze of course! I'm still quite happily playing that one 😁

Jenny | 8050 comments I will defend the mods' evil minds to the ends of the Earth.

Especially since that seems to be the direction they are leading us all.

I wasn't around for that one yet, but I went and looked at it. I think it should be doable with locked and linked spreadsheets. Let me look at it sometime this month. I see why it is a lot of work without automating.

message 1359: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments At times I'm sad I missed Quidditch, Cutthroat, and WOBBLE since they seemed fun if intense. But then I see the comments people make about them years later and think maybe it's better I missed them.

message 1360: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8050 comments I loved Quidditch. The other two were played before I joined up, alas.

Monster wheel really turned into something more brilliant than I ever thought it would.

We really should turn more of the minis into individual challenges afterwards.

message 1362: by MelanieJoy (new)

MelanieJoy (ladybird11) | 1414 comments WOBBLE was my first ever challenge, I had just joined goodreads and started reading more. It was a neat experience but man I'm glad I wasn't captain! I've done a few challenges later but my reading got really sporadic. It's back up now, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the next team challenge is!

Long may the Monster Wheel reign! Our team is still really enjoying it into the second year. Any new monsters on the horizon?

message 1365: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments If you have a theme suggestions, I am up for making another wheel - just not in March. I am spending much of March camping for work.

message 1366: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8050 comments The first one that comes to mind that we haven't really covered is monsters from children's stories. Cinderella's stepmother, the hunter that shot Bambi's mom, etc. I don't have kids, so I am guessing there are a bunch of good monsters that have surfaced since my childhood.

That, or Native American or Aboriginal story monsters.

We may have a few of the above, but not a whole wheel, I think.

Lots of different countries and cultures that we haven't scratched the surface of yet.

Oh good grief, light relief? I did Quidditch once and never again LOL - my team literally tried to get me to go to sleep for bed at like 6 pm to get up by midnight and stay up the entire night even though I tried to explain I had to work full time in an office next morning. Yeah, nope!

Ah, I have fond memories of the old wheels with those colors.

message 1369: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments My first Wheel was the Nightmare Before Christmas one so I'm partial to that one. Plus it was one of my favorite movies growing up which made it a perfect theme for my first Wheel.

message 1370: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments God I've done so many Wheels and TT's at this point. I'm weirdly one of those people who is always excited by the variety of challenges. I have yet to find a challenge that makes me want to throw things, as a player or as a captain. I enjoy the challenge of making books fit all the different things, and well I'm enough of a control freak that captaining soothes my soul a little bit.

I will admit to having adored WOBBLE and being sad that it hasn't (ok, ok, ok, probably never will) return.

Every new theme always intrigues me. Everybody comes up with the most unique ideas.

message 1371: by MelanieJoy (new)

MelanieJoy (ladybird11) | 1414 comments I'm with you Shelby! I was so intrigued! But yeah looks like WOBBLE won't return, hahaha.

But I have no desire for control and I just like helping out the team with a few books.

message 1372: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8288 comments Obviously I was the happiest with the Discworld TT, but I am eagerly anticipating any challenges you are coming up with. Although I don't mind having avoided cutthroat and wobble altogether. :)

(Warships was both terrifying and a lot of fun, and no quidditch for me, thank you ;)

message 1373: by MelanieJoy (new)

MelanieJoy (ladybird11) | 1414 comments I think I did one quidditch match in a wheels or a TT? That's probably all I handle.

I skipped cutthroat altogether because I knew I couldn't hang.

I've made a list of vegetable and mineral folklore, which could get tasks.... Shall share with you later

If some monsters can be added to wheels already on the go, I could give you some embedded in Hungarian folklore. :)

Here will give you some info

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Basically lots of teams dobbing on each other, spying, etc so you could read a book for a task and then it could be taken off you without warning

It was fun. But I think the extent of my doing was saying that we needed to have a mini themed by sin, and coming up with pretty images. The twisted minis were not a by-product of my evil mind. That was all you and Cat. :P

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Cutthroat was bloody awesome but it went by like a whisker!

And then there were "The Gladiator Games" which was mad insane too with all these teams merging into other teams after a couple weeks and then the merged teams merging into other merged teams. By the end it was craaaazy! I bet setting all of that up was no fun for the Mods.

message 1385: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'm pretty sure *eye twitches* that-who-shall-not-be-name was worse.

Even if both Kelly and Mr Kelly were adorkable nerd software engineers that breathed setting up impossible and complicated challenges just for fun.

message 1386: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments To play on the monsters theme how about Supernatural theme? They killed monsters from all over. Some of them I had not heard of until I saw them in the show and then looked them up

message 1387: by Tati (new)

Tati | 1350 comments oooh, I remember WOBBLE, and still have the tiniest hope it may one day happen again, even if it's been years since it happened.

I think I skipped Cutthroat because I was not at a good reading place when it happened, but I kinda regret it

Good to have you back. Wow, how did you stay off Goodreads for 7 years.. I can't stay off it for 7 minutes, LOL. Hope you enjoy your time back.

Haha, space smut is about the only smut I read. It's so ridiculous and over the top, it's kind of relaxing between serious reads. If we're ever on the same team again I'm more than happy to take the pain for you, Chava. 😊

Thanks! LOL, I can't even believe it was that long. I started to peter off sometime in 2017. Life was just hectic and I went into a deep reading funk and found it so difficult to concentrate on any books or anything related to reading. My job was pretty demanding for the past 5 years, but it's finally letting up and now my reading mood has made a comeback, so here I am again :)
