(view spoiler)[It's hard to answer that question, since there wasn't much about Elijah and his relationship with his kids (the legitimate ones; we all know how he treated the illegitimate ones), or maybe I just missed. Malcolm was progressing fast, and the Muhammad progeny was afraid of him, because people are always afraid of others that are better than them. But, I think that their fear of him succeeding the father was unfounded because, no matter how much Elijah loved Malcolm, he was also afraid of him, and would never have given him THE spot.
