New app: BookHippo Swipe - Testers Needed
Super. Thank you.At the moment, I'm waiting for Amazon and Google to approve my beta testing programmes. There will be further delays with Apple because they expect me to have a Mac, which is a pointless bit of turf stamping.
Once the beta tests are approved, testers should be able to grab the app from official links.
Until then, if anybody is happy to sideload the app (if you don't know what that means, you probably don't want to try it), I have a file that can be manually added to Android devices.
Ooh, swish looking! I'll happily have a play and I'm all about the sideloading, though I certainly don't use any apps that enable me to watch free football on my android box because that would be wrong!
given the quality of literature shown on the screen grab I really ought to have a go but I'm afraid I don't have an appropriate phone
Same here, Jim. Embarrassing isn't it! What's worse is that I don't even want one of those phones. The children keep threatening to buy me one. Sigh.I really hope I am not going to be called a Luddite in years to come.
Amazon have now approved my live test, which means anybody I add by email address can download and play with the app.If you have a Kindle Fire and would be happy to test the app, please send me an email from the account you use to log into Amazon. My address is rosen.trevithick@gmail.com
Thanks.
I'm hoping to get a new Android phone at the weekend, after which I'd be happy to test. It sounds like a great idea.

Done.
The beta version of the android app is now available to anybody with the link. Please let me know if you'd like that link.As for the Kindle version. Has anybody managed to successfully install it yet, please?
Rosen wrote: "Super. I've sent it to you in private messages. Thank you very much."Received thanks, just re-set my password so will have a play with it when I get home.

I'll not share my tea with you (it will be gammon which is almost bacon)

Thank you testers.I've PMed to link to everybody who's asked now, I think...
Desley, do you know which book had the wrong description, and did it have the description of a book near it, or just any old book, please?
I can apply as tester, but when I click the link to get the app it says item not found. Is the testing limited to certain countries?
It's UK only. I didn't think there was much point releasing it abroad, as I'll get loads of negative reviews because all the prices are for the UK. If it's really successful, I'll release in other territories.
I've uploaded a new version, which addresses some of the issues, e.g.:- instructions on first login
- larger close button on popups
- arrows on bookshelf make it more obvious that swiping left will reveal more options
Still to do:
- make more info appear on screen 'tap' and well as '?' button
- fix issue with the more info popup showing wrong books (I am having trouble fixing this as I can't replicate it.)
I'm not sure how it assesses country. It might be actual physical location, or where your device is registered.

Sorry, that would have been helpful! It was Girl on a Train, when you clicked the question mark it gave you Katie Stewartstown description
I've had another play with the update this morning. It's nifty. What's the long term aim of the app if you don't mind me asking?
Too bad, this could be the tinder of books :D I could see this become very popular on good reads and would suggest to release it internationally if you can code it to show other currency :) Perhaps build in a preference for a reference site? Like show prices from amazon.com instead of amazon.co.uk (if that's how it works).Good luck! And make certain you swipe Windcatcher to the left (if that is approve at least :D) when you come across it ;)
Hi,- What's the long term aim of the app?
The same as the short term. Get people downloading and buying more books, in a way that doesn't differentiate between indies and trads.
- Can I get the app on my mini iPad?
You will be able to get the app for Apple devices eventually. Because Apple force you to use a Mac to upload the app, and I don't have one, I'm going to wait until I'm 100% happy with the Android one before widening the net.
✿Claire✿ wrote: "Hi Rosen, if you'd like any more testers I'd love to, on Android :)"I can do one better.
Here's the published app.

It's my first release of my first ever app, so please be gentle with me!

Here is a selection of screenshots:
The app works on a basic 'swipe left for no, right for yes' principle, where readers can quickly browse through covers, tapping for more info such as the blurb and download links.
I need some volunteer testers please. I'm currently in the process of setting up beta tests for iOS and Android, including Kindles. Please let me know if you would be happy to play with the app and offer feedback.
Many thanks
