Steph (loves water) | 110 comments It was written in a diary form, the girl was from the 1950s, and I think the mother was an alcoholic. I read it in the 70s. That's all I can remember, I'm pretty sure that was the name of it but I can't find the book anywhere.

All help appreciated.

There are good times and there are not-so-good times. For a young girl trying to sort out her life, there are some things so bad that she can't talk about them. So she hides them in her diary.

bookel | 2103 comments It was found on worldcat.org advanced search with a year range, juvenile fiction book English, and the words American girl in the title field. Strangely it didn't turn up when I tried An American girl.

Steph (loves water) | 110 comments Thank you so much for going the extra mile! It's here on Goodreads with a generic cover. That's exactly it!
