Hi, I'm looking for suggestions for books in which a character tells a distorted version of their own life story again and again, perhaps to hide the truth for themselves.
An example would be the kid in I Am the Cheese who is interviewed by the same agent every year and tells the same story about his family, but is seemingly unaware that his father is dead.
Or the guy in the film Memento, who keeps repeating the same quest to find his wife's killer, not realising he is being manipulated because he can't remember what actually happened to him.
I feel like this theme has been used in other books but I can't remember which ones. Any help appreciated.
