Hello everyone! So the book we will be reading in May is The Bazaar of Bad Dreams, a collection of short stories by Stephen King. Anyone have already purchased the book or ready to read it? Share your thoughts in this discussion topic!

I unfortunately couldn't find it in any of my local bookstores so I guess I'll try and find a pdf soon.

I can't find it on my library either, but I'll figure something out :')It's May, everyone! Has anyone started reading the book yet?
I will not be participating in the group read this month, I am so swamped with projects and big exams, and finals are coming up in a few weeks so I will not have any time. But I hope you all enjoy the book!

Aw, that's too bad Julia! I haven't started the book yet either, Jodi, but I'm hoping I can read it soon :)

Sorry all, I won't be participating too this month since I don't own the book in my shelf yet. I already have a very long list in my to-read shelf and right now I feel so bad to stretch it out even more. Besides, my wallet says no. Hahaha.

I can't find this book either :(But for those of you currently reading, how did you like it? I really enjoy Stephen King (I've only read The Shining, Rose Madder, and Cell by him) but I've never read his short stories. How are they in comparison to his horror novels?
I only started reading The Dreamcatcher when I was like 13 and I was so terrified I never picked up another book by him until this one haha.

I shelled out for the hardcover copy. Ayunda: how was Rose Madder? I picked it up -- along with "Desperation" at the paperback section in the grocery store....
Ya know-- even with a (Book-snobby) MA (literature focus), I still LOVE Stephen King unapologetically. Yes, I know he's a horror writer, his books are branded " popular fiction"--- but that man can write. He's like a modern- day Wilkie Collins. Maybe we should "ennoble" his work by henceforth referring to it as "Post-Modern Sensation" fiction.
Yes, thats what Im going to do.....lol. ..Maybe a new genre has been born, right here on our humble blog :-)

I like it so far, I think my favorite story so far was the one regarding the last will and testament. I can't think of the name of it right now.

I liked Rose Madder, but it wasn't spectacular. Neither was Cell in my opinion... I do love his writing and his thinking process for each novel is amazing, but my favourite is probably The Shining, which means that I prefer the horror/suspense types he wrote instead of the more thriller/gorey ones.

I am going to start listening to The Shining soon, I finally got it as an audiobook. I agree with you, too. Cell wasn't great in my opinion either. I liked Mile 81, too, but it wasn't my favorite.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I know I'll want to read both Madder and Cell...cant resist...my favorite King novel? Man-- so many. Dead Zone, Mercedes, The Dark Tower series.....i think the only King Novel i disliked was Tommyknockers....too long, full of blah blah blah...maybe i should reread it

Thats impressive! Im still catching up on King from when I was too busy to read, or read what was assigned in college/grad school.

Hahaha, thanks I suppose. :p I'm too much of a scaredy cat and I didn't want to try them when I was younger I think. Oh yeah, now that I've graduated there are so many books that I'm catching up on. It's nice isn't it?

Yes! I love school, but sometimes a person just wants to read whatever she wants! Im binge-reading right now, reading promiscuously and unapologetically-- though not indiscriminately--because that's the point: I can choose now... :-)

I agree, I can see why classics are disregarded because they're turned into 'required reading', and forcing students to read isn't the answer.

Me, too! I was comforted by the fact that people arrived, and the horse was probably attended to.

I really need to read more Stephen King books! His writing is amazing. My top TBR from his work is probably Bazaar, although I can't seem to find it anywhere! :(

Bazaar note: for anyone who read The Dark Tower series, there's a short story that relates to the The Tower and The Rose. I loved it. I miss all of the characters and bad guys from that epic. Sigh. I was so happy to have a brief encounter...

I finished Bazaar, and i really enjoyed it! I confess to skipping the two poems. Like most Americans, i hate poetry.
I gave it four stars!

I did skip the poems as well. I like poetry, but not that style haha. I am on the Kindle story right now and I like it a lot.

Tbh this book wasn't as impressive as I was hoping it would be. It wasn't up to par with any of the short story collections I've recently read. How did you all feel?
