Urban Fantasy discussion
Welcome to the Group! Introduce yourself...

Hi Faith! Welcome to the group. Like Lisa MH said, your books have been mentioned in this group and Skinwalker was even voted to be the Group Read Month for February 2010. I, personally, am a fan of your work. :)
Hi everyone. Im just getting my autistic son to read and it looks like he will be a book lover like his old man.

Bookloving children are wonderful! :)

I'm full time high school student and also a member of amateur theatre company, where I am responsible for the sound (and I also function as a prompter and anything else that's needed at the moment), so I don't have as much time for reading as I'd like.
It's a shame, since I know I am able to read even 6 books a week while going to school. But that was two years ago. And also I am quite mad at myself that I don't read much even when I have a time. That's also the reason I signed up here today and challenged myself to read at least 50 books this year. I hope I won't dissapoint myself :)
I read lot of different genres, but I love fantasy, supernatural and historical (romance) the most, I guess. I read some books in english to improve my english and also because a lot of interesting books aren't available in czech (e.g. Maximum Ride series by James Patterson).
I hope to discover some new books for me to read and have a good time here! :)

I've been re-discovering my passion for reading and have been hitting the UF and PNR bookshelves super heavy for the last couple of years. I prefer series and am looking for some good recommendations which I in turn can push on my book buddy friends. I prefer a little darker adult books, the less romancey style, but I will still read PNR and a YA series too if theres a good storyline.
Some of my Favorites:
Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson series
Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan, the Hallows series
Illona Andrews Kate Daniels series
Kelley Armstrong
Joceyln Drake's Dark Days series
Karen Marie Moning's Fever series
Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series
Charlaine Harris' Sookie series
Richelle Mead's Succubus and Dark Swan series
Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake and Mercy series
Chloe Neil's Chicagoland Vampires
and several more
Currently working thru the Carrie Vaughn Kitty series and Jim Butcher Dresden files, but have taken a short break to read Lover Unleashed from the BDB JR Ward series.
Look forward to your recommendations.

Hello fellow fans!
My name is Alisha I'm 26 years old and currently in nursing school about to graduate, so excited because yay I will get a job finally and catch up on my reading. I've been in a happy relationship for 4 years who is so understandable of my obsession. My first urban fantasy book was Kate Daniels series since then I was hooked. My personal idol is Felicia Day who made me comfortable to be a public video game girl geek then leading me to goodreads. Super excited about this Nightshift book of the month, I know that she a local author so can't wait!

I am a writer too and have always been intrigued with aspects of both these literary categories. My latest ebook delves into ghosts, vampires, magic spells etc wholeheartedly...

Glad to be part of this group!

I'm a photographer/writer/editor with two published non-fiction books and one in-progress UF novel which may or may not ever get finished.
I read everything - from fantasy to biography. Having spent my twenties reading my way through the Western Canon I have come to the conclusion that literature, with very few exceptions, is a product of its times and it is the *very rare* book which makes the generational leap with success. Lord save us digital agers with instant gratification addictions from Proust :)
I'm a voracious reader, sometimes reading for fun and entertainment and sometimes to understand the marketplace and sometimes because I want to figure out how something is done (or how not to do something).
I am looking forward to talking with you all about the genre.

I love the escapism too! Welcome!

I have always loved to read, and started reading horror books in high school. Stephen King and Dean Koontz were my favorites for years. Once I found Laurell K. Hamilton, I was hooked. I still read the occasional thriller or chick lit, but PnR and UF are my books of choice. I read them all....from YA to Erotica.
I just joined the current Challenge. Last year I read 130 books, so I'm hoping to read at least that many this year too.
I'm looking forward to getting to know ya'll better, and to knowing what books ya'll like the best.

I'm a big SF/Dark Fantasy/PN lover which works b/c a load of UF and DUF can be found with these themes. I like reading other folks' reviews, favs, and about what they are currently reading. I'm nosy! :-)
I've lost track of all the books I've read but I'm glad I'm enthusiastic of reading. Looking forward to joining in some discusssions here.

Just curious, what's DUF? Dark Urban Fantasy maybe? LOL, I can't keep track of all the abbreviations. :P

Im Chrissy 25 and from Connecticut and new to goodreads.com. Im a HUGE Fan of Sexy Vampire Romances..
I Love the Night Huntress Series(Cat & Bones) and Night Huntress World Series (NHW).. I cant wait for the Vlad Books and Next book Cat & Bones 6.. I just Love the way Jeaniene Frost Writes. The way she writes the Love Scenes, jus give me Shivers and GooseBumps.
Im hoping to find Here suggestions for another Great Adult Vampire Romance Action Series that keeps the Same main Characters/Couple and has kind of the same Flow and Romantic Writing Style of Cat & Bones or NHW Series, With Steamy Love Scenes..
If you happen to know a really good Adult Vampire Romance Action Series or Paranormal series, Please dont Hesitate to tell me.. Any Suggestions Would GREATLY be Appreciated
Thanks.. :O)

I'm a HUGE fan of the Dresden Files. I also like the Hollows (aka Rachel Morgan) series by Kim Harrison, the Mercy Thompson series by Patrica Briggs, the Kitty Norville ser..."
Have you read Blue Moon Rising by Simon R. Green? That was the first book of his that I read, and I haven't looked back since. It's more of a straight fantasy only without the damsel in distress... Well, it being Simon R. Green, everything is reversed, but it is so damn good.

my name is Seline and I read fantasy books since 15 years (or more). I'm fascinated in all books about vampires, werewolfes, witches, demon... supernatural beings and I like books with a lot of erotic scene and action. :-) I was born in Germany and finsihed my first own fantasy book a few weeks ago. It's amazing how many peopel write about the same stuff and all have individual stories :-)
Nice to meet you all and I hope we'll have a lot of nice discussions :-)

Hi Joel!
We had some discussion about this on this thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
It's around the 20th post that someone mentioned it, and others discuss it. You could comment there, and "bump" the thread back up. I'm sure there are new members who would like to share their thoughts on it.
EDIT - It's comment 18 that starts the topic of authors rating their own work.

Hehe. I think I'll have to leave the writing for the experts.I tried my hand in it once but it's harder than I thought. But it does make me appreciate what people who do write do more now. Are you a writer yourself? Or should I answer that by clicking on your profile lol?

OOPSIE! Welcome to the group!

Think I should start an ebook WL here....so I don't forget what to buy once I DO get an ereader. It's only a matter of time....

As it happens I'm actually a recent convert to ebooks myself.

My name is Lacy Jae, and I'm a 28 year old artist and student in Calgary, Alberta Canada. I love creating in almost any medium, gaming (tabletop, board games, video games), and cuddling up with my monster kitty, Mi-Go, to read. I travel often with my favourite companion, my mom <3 and have been to Australia three times, throughout much of Canada and the US, and hope to make it to Greece and Ireland next spring. I am addicted to art, BPAL perfumes, various awesome tv shows, and horror movies.
I generally tend toward horror/thriller novels, and anything Lovecraftian, but I think my urban fantasy addiction began with Dresden Files and Laurell K. Hamilton's works. I read pretty much anything but straight romance, and really enjoy ancient historical fiction as well. My current love is Seanan McGuire's October Daye series, which I started a couple days ago and am in danger of finishing today. I am always on the lookout for more authors to check out so I'm really glad this group is so full of suggestions. :D
Anyhow, that's me! Nice to finally meet you all. :)

My name is Karen Abrahamson and I live in Vancouver, Canada (waves over mountains to Lacy Jae. I'm big into writing and photography and travel and I also have cats--two very bad Bengal cats to be exact. Think ADHD destructocats. (But I love 'em).
I'll read pretty much anything, and that includes non-fiction, but I seem to be on a bit of an Urban Fantasy kick. I love Devon Monk's work and Adrian Phoenix's as well. I'll read thriller, mystery, romance and literary fiction as well and I also love YA.
I'm looking forward to reading suggestions and lots of interesting discussions.
Cheers.

For the LA Banks book it was a hard read with the slang, even with the revised version. It was really cool, but I can never bring myself to continue reading them.

Hi! I love Jim Butcher, too!

I'm a total reading addict - mostly Fantasy, Science Fiction and all kinds of children's and young adult books, but I'll read anything at a pinch!
Looking forward to meeting new people here and discovering some new authors and books too :)

I recently graduated with a BA in English, even though I loved getting the degree, I couldn't wait to have time to read the genres I really enjoy!

If you're looking for new reads you should check out Favorite Underrated UF Book/Series topic here. It has tons of great reads that are over looked.

Hi Faith! Your books have been mentioned several times in this group. I've only heard good things about them. I enjoyed your short story in Strange Brew. If I wasn't catching up on about 5 or 6 series, I'd already have read the Yellowrock series. They're definately high on my list. I can't wait till I get the chance to read them. :)
