Thank you Karen, these are both series that I would like to return to reading.

I PM'ed you, please answer me there rather than on this public feed. Thanks, Marla

I just finished my first book The Sweet Gum Tree. It was a 5 star read for me, which was surprising, considering I am not typically into the romance genre, but I found it hard to put down.
Just finished reading The Band That Played On: The Extraordinary Story of the 8 Musicians Who Went Down with the Titanic. I gave it four stars. The author really didn't have a lot to go on with some of these musicians, but he did a great job of researching their lives and putting their careers in context with the times. He also did his best to sort out some of the confusing information relating to these men, that was circulated afterthe Titanic disaster.

I finished my first read last night, Amber! I read Rumpel's Prize, which wasn't all that great. Too many mash ups, not enough original story. Thanks for picking it, though, I really needed the motivation to read it!
I finished my first dusty book
. This was a stand alone romance but it would be helpful to have read the other book in the series( and pervious series) just for background. I feel there wasn't much romance, so for these reasons, I gave it a *** rating.
I finished another read last night, Amber! Good Girl Gone Plaid wasn't all that good...it focused mostly on sex and not enough on resolving the relationship issues. Just wasn't a good fit for me and I won't be reading the other books in the series.
Trea wrote: "I finished another read last night, Amber! Good Girl Gone Plaid wasn't all that good...it focused mostly on sex and not enough on resolving the relationship issues. Just wasn't a go..."Ack! My apologies. My picks are 0/2 so far. Hopefully, the third book will be better. It sounded really good, at least? *hopeful expression*
@Danielle,
I listened to
and of course it ended in a cliffhanger. Thank you for giving me the push to get to it.
I hope to get to my other book next week

I finished
and gave it 4 Stars. I liked it although it could have been longer. The next book in the series is out and I'll read that soon.I'm reading the second book picked for me now.
LaurLaThanks for your picks this month. I finished both of them.
Served Hot - sweet, fast, easy read. I'd be happy to continue with this series.
A Solitary Man -- I was looking forward to this book. I like mysteries, I like law enforcement officers, I like mm romance. This seemed like a good fit for me. The book has lots of glowing reviews. I HATED this book. I found the main characters arrogant and unlikable. I found them offensive. The plot was implausible and not in a way I could accept. I didn't even like the secondary characters.
Furthermore, I took personal offense (which I know is crazy, but..whatever, I am still actually offended) by this, from Chapter 8 (16% according to my reader) "There was an epidemic of missing children in the US, and it all stemmed from abuse and neglect. Very few parents were responsible anymore. Most were breeders who didn't give a shit about the end product."
Really? Very few What percentage is very few? Say 10%? Bullshit. This is an outrageous position to take. Every child that is abused or neglected is a tragedy, but to state that most of the parents in the US are simply breeders who do not take care of their children is not only offensive, it is simply not true.
I should have stopped at that point since I was mad and offended, but I have this unhealthy compulsion to finish every book I start. I have got to get over that.
I've finished both books for this month. I actually finished one a little early since a needed it for another challenge last month.
The Good Girl|Mary Kubica 4-27-2016 | 4*
The Happiness Project: Or Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun|Gretchen Rubin 5-11-2016 | 3*Thanks for the selections, Joanne - is from Canada!
No worries @Marla I still got picks just a little late :)I finished
at silly o'clock this morning. Great read. 4.5 stars.
Finished my first one today!
Loved it, 5 stars. Quite disturbing but lots of things to make you think. This would be an awesome book club book.
Trea, I finished
the other day. Really good. Now I have to see if I can find a few more in this series. 5 Stars.

Well, this is a red letter day - I've finished both books for this month's challenge, and did so by the middle of the month! Shocking.
I wrapped up
this morning. It's an interesting mix of spiritualism, early experiments with electricity, racial identity, world politics and the Titanic disaster. Really, with all of the action going on for 2/3rds of the book, the Titanic sinking seemed like a bit of an afterthought. Mixed in with the fictional Parker family are famous people of the period - Tesla, Conan Doyle, Houdini, and of course the major characters on board the ship when it makes the ill-fated voyage. I almost think that she covered too much in this novel, but it was still a fun read. Thanks for the picks!

How awful, Susan! I'm with you! That is more than offensive to say US parents are just breeders and don't care about our children. And to say it as 'end product' as if our children aren't people but things! I understand that compulsion to finish every book, so I'm doubly sorry you had to sit through that crap!
Finished second book! I've Got Your Number - ended up really liking it more than I expected to. 5 stars for both books this month!
Thanks Karen ♐Finished both of my reads:
Fire And Ice by Ann Stuart 5/10 - 4stars
Burning Dawn by Gena Showalter 5/16 - 4stars
Kay (Brigidsmomma) wrote: "Finished my second book,
. OMG! this was GOOD!!!! Thanks Trea!"Glad you liked it!
Nichole wrote: "Hi Agnieszka, I haven't read any of your books so here goes.I pick for you
because it's first :) and
because -Puppy!! Enjoy"This week I read the book
. It was ok but not really remarkable 3*.
Well, Amber, I finished The Pepper in the Gumbo. It wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. It dragged a good bit for me, making it hard to enjoy.
Finished, with not much time to spare. Well, technically finished, because I had to DNF one of my books (One for the Money) because I hated the main character because she was, in my opinion, annoying as all get out and suffered heavily from too-stupid-to-live syndrome. So that's also technically my review of it, I guess? But the other pick, The Lost Duke of Wyndham, made up for that a bit. It was really interesting, had some funny bits, and was basically an awesome read except for the fact that it was a little too annoying about constantly bringing up the unrealistic insta-love between the main characters. Pretty much the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five, actually. That, and I'm pretty sure she (view spoiler).
I finished Abandon by Blake Crouch yesterday. I really liked it a lot. I'm so glad I discovered him last year with the Wayward Pines trilogy.
Marty,I finished
- Really enjoyed this book 4 Stars
- This one just didn't work for me - insta love, heroine I just didn't like - 1 Star
The month got away from me this month so I didn't get my books finished. I will do better next month!
Donna wrote: "The month got away from me this month so I didn't get my books finished. I will do better next month!"I'm exactly the same Donna! Best of luck to both of us, we can do it :)
