For all of those who have read Christopher Paolini's Inheritance cycle, you know it ended a while back. But Christopher is planning a sequel (plus a bunch of other stories, but this is first on the list in the Alagaesia world) for the series!
We know Murtagh and Nasuada will feature significantly, as will Roran's role in the new empire. And it's all but certain we'll see Eragon again and his relationship with Arya.
Inheritance left a few open ends, so, what are your predictions guys?

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments Well, not to divert away from talking about what the book is actually going to be about, but I need to vent a little about Nasuada and Murtaugh. Those two had the best character interactions in Inheritance and both were my favorite characters. Plus I think they are a beautiful couple.
Anyways, I believe that we will focus a little on Murtaugh and Thorn and what they find up north and their dragon-rider relationship because I think they are the only rider and dragon we don't really know why they do what they do, especially Thorn.
Nasuada, who I believe was named Empress of Alagaesia at the end of Inheritance, will be busy with that and I want to see how everyone in Alagaesia will accept her since she is descended from the wandering tribes and maybe that will be seen as inferior to the rest of the people in Alagaesia. She'll also be interacting with the King of Surda a lot (I can't remember his name but they were childhood friends) and I want to see the two countries interact without a crazy ruler in charge of one.

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments Now to be even more long-winded, things I want to see are...
-What is west??????
-Urgal and Dwarf dragon riders
-Nasuada and Murtaugh (one can only dream)
-Who are the Grey Folk?
-Angela and the werecats?
- Elva!!!!!!!!! WHAT is she?
-Arya and Fírnen
-Nasuada and the King of Surda
-Razac still alive???
-The land the humans and elves came from
- What is North????
- What were the words Brom last said the Eragon?
Things I kinda don't care about are...
-Roran (sorry, those were the boring chapters to me)

Wow, I am very excited to hear this - Cannot wait for these books.
It will be really cool to see what Christopher comes up with - he was really young when he wrote the first four, so he has probably come quite a way since - and they were amazing books anyway!
So what are my predictions?
Well i definitely think Arya and Eragon will feature, they were an amazing couple.
It is quite evident that lnew riders will be trained, and i cannot wait for Eragon to show himself as a teacher, i think it will be awesome to see how he changes as a character.
In the empire, i can definitely see some sort of upsets, and i predict that there will be some issues with getting rid of Galbatorix's old supporters/views. There will also probably be some attempt at integrating urgals, elves and dwarves into the human population (and dwarven and urgal riders for the first time!)
At the same time i expect some inter-race issues with the integration and i predict that an empire/band of rebels Eragon and his riders find outside of Alagaesia will attack alagaesia/wage war on alagaesia, and it will be a mixed effort from within and outside the empire to stop it. Furthermore, i can definitely see eragon not playing a massive role in alagaesia after angela's reading (he will leave forever). My prediction on that will be that h finds a loophole (christopher did it with defeating galbatorix so...), or he just commands from outside and depends loads on his riders.
Oh and i hope those Ra'za return - could be interesting.
Oh and I predict some sort of betrayal by one of the riders - either Murtagh or another rider he trains. Maybe Murtagh will lead the other empire..rebel group against Alagaesia from the north? Crazy ideas flowing through my mind.

I have to agree with reyna, a lot of Roran's chapters were pretty dull in the Inheritance Cycle, but at the same time, some of them were very good, and i think paolini can pull it out the bag again.

To add onto reyna's list, other things i really would love to delve into: the past riders, Eragon's father and mother, dwarven and elven politics and livelihoods - im sure tehre will be loads of other things too - i might read the books again!
Very excited, what are your predictions?

Jamie (rolling_in_the_muck) | 35 comments Some more information on the release of this book:
Here is what Christopher said on the subject of him writing more books.

“I’ve given a lot of thought to what I want to write after having finished Inheritance. In fact, I have a number of books entirely plotted out that I’ve been waiting to write for several years now. Some are fantasy, some are science fiction, some romance, historical fiction, mystery, thriller, horror . . . you name it!”

He has also confirmed that it "would be set after the events of the Inheritance cycle, would be a single stand-alone book, and would feature both new and old characters.”
He noted that throughout the original has lain clues about the final book and its plot--which sounds cool! Sounds like we have a mystery - we'll just have to predict what these will be!
He has also confirmed that "we haven't seen the last of Murtagh" and refused to answer any questions surrounding Murtagh--so this seems exciting. However he has said that we will learn of Nasuada and Murtagh's relationship. What are your predictions about the role of Murtagh in this fifth book?

He has also confirmed that those who want to find out about a possible Arya/Eragon relationship should enjoy the fifth book.
Whilst this is not directly related to book 5, he has also said that e doesn't "have any immediate plans to write a prequel, but, if I ever do, it will probably be either the story of Brom’s life or a story set during the height of the Riders’ power. I will probably write Book V first.” That would be very cool, I would love to explore the riders a bit more, what do you guys think?

Regarding plot, he has only really said these two comments:
"Everyone in Alagaësia has overlooked something really, really important with regard to the new peace they hope to establish." and "Light and shadow shall meet in an epic battle."

So that seems to be it regarding the new book - its not even written yet, so we are in for at least a year of waiting!

Wow, some interesting stuff!
I really do want some more Nasuada/Murtagh interaction. We were given a very interesting beginning to a relationship between them, but it was just left hanging. Seeing more of that is definitely a priority.
It'll be cool if we see some more Eragon/Arya, but I'm not sure how Paolini will make that work, considering the whole "leave Alagaesia and never return" thing. Huh.
Finally... I have no clue what the thing overlooked is. I'm not sure what hints Paolini left us that he is referring to. I hope it's something clever. Anyone have any ideas?

hannah pachet (hannahpachet) I really want some more Roran and Eragon moments, one of my favourite parts was when they were competing to see who had the worst injury.

I'm so excited about this! Now I'm going to have to reread the other four books though, because it's been awhile.

Haha, I totally agree! It's been a while so I can't really remember what happened...
I like Roran as a character, but his scenes in Eldest bored me. When there was more of a focus on his personal life in the Varden, I enjoyed it more, but I'm not sure if that's what it's going to be like in this book. Hopefully!
I agree, I'm excited for those moments, but I'm unsure if we'll get them. I'm still not sure if Eragon will return to Alagaesia...

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments Okay, I recognize the name of the Varden but I can't remember what they are can someone refresh me it's been a long time!
And how do you think the Elduri are going to fit into the story? Are we gonna get to see more dragons and their history's? I hope we do

Haha don't worry about it, it's been sooo long. One of the bad things releasing another book after so long in a series like Eragon, which is fairly complex, is people forget things.

The Varden, I think, were the rebel group against Galbatorix run by Nasuada. And I think you mean the Eldunari, I hope so, I want to see them, but they're important, so I would think yes. (Maybe we get to see Glaedr (the gold dragon in an eldunari) again?) And YES, more dragon history I NEED....
But Paolini said he might do a separate book on that, so I don't know...

Jamie (rolling_in_the_muck) | 35 comments Paolini said he has considered a prequel, but this is not one. He may do one in the future. This continues onwards from Inheritance

message 15: by Kittycatcp (new)

Kittycatcp | 12 comments I don't see how Paolini could make a new book, he would have to come up with a new storyline and that could be tricky. Everything was already resolved and the time lady (Angelina I believe was her name, sorry it has been a while since I read these books) said that Eragon would leave the land and never come back. He could be writing a sequel about other stuff like Arya. A prequel would be really nice and we could see a little history of Brom.

Arch | 248 comments Mod
I see your points, truthfully I don't know how Paolini is going to address those issues! He hasn't revealed much information, but he has said Eragon/Arya will get some development so maybe he's found a way around the 'you will leave Alagaesia and never return'.
Also I think Paolini is planning for a prequel, or even several, and I'm not sure if I can remember correctly but I think one of them is about Brom? :)

Definitely sounds like a good idea. I'd be happy if Paolini went down that route, to be honest. But maybe some would think it's a kind of cheap way out?

What I mean is, it might seem a bit silly for Paolini to return Eragon to Alagaesia after making it a decently emotional, albeit not very popular, ending of the series where he left. I don't know though?

Kr33p3rK1ll3r | 14 comments Not that I don't agree with you, but maybe he'll do it at the end of the book or somewhere in the middle, possibly to face a new threat from the other side of the sea. It would be cool to see what other adventures lie west.

Yes!! That would definitely solve a LOT of the issues with it. Especially because I feel like then Paolini would at least get to establish/somewhat explore the lands beyond alagaesia before making Eragon return, so it doesn't feel like a cop out. I feel like this would work, and the more I think about it the more I think it's likely it could happen.

Of course, it could happen the other way: Eragon finds adventure/threat in the new lands, and Arya has to go to HIM. That way Paolini could still get the Eragon/Arya interaction he promised. I hope he goes for the first way though...

Kr33p3rK1ll3r | 14 comments Well, we all want to see the West, but what about more on Sloan? We don't see much of him around these books...

message 22: by Edis (new)

Edis Krad | 1 comments I think I may have found the hint in book 4 that Paolini is referring to. I don't have the book in front of me, but I'll paraphrase as best as I can remember. Murtagh warned Eragon as he left for the north that Galbatorix had more servants, some more dangerous than the Ra'zac, and that they would be seeking revenge for his death. I think this will come into play, as well as specific references and mentions that he makes throughout the series that at first glance, come to nothing, such as the castle that Eargon sees in the Beor Mountains after Orik's coronation, the location of Morzan's fortress, and of course, what the Meona tree took from Eragon in Brisingr. Something I would like to see at some point, is the recovery of the belt that Eragon lost in Dras-Leona, the belt of Beloth the wise. Two other things that I want answers for are Oromis's reaction to Eragon's revelation about his sword and Brom's reaction to seeing Saphira.

Kr33p3rK1ll3r | 14 comments Well, I'd thought back to it, and I'm curious about the vague warnings Glaedr gave Murtagh before he and Thorn left for the north. Also I hope this book comes out soon. My foot's twitching... Hmm...

These are all such interesting things to think about!!! I think you're probably right about Galbatorix's other servants. One thing I've always thought of is that there must be more to the story of how Galbatorix got so much power so quickly, and I think that perhaps these other powerful, unseen servants could have something to do with it..

I really hope we get answers to these other plot points as well!!!

Yaaaay more Angela is always a great thing. Honestly I can hardly remember Tenga but seeing more of him will be good.

But yeah, I definitely think the relationship between Eragon/Angela is one that needs to be explored more, in addition to just Angela. They had really good interactions, and I'd like to see more of that!

Well, if you recall, the belt went missing when Eragon and Arya got captured by the Priests of Helgrind. They must've taken the belt because the religious group survived and Eragon couldn't find the belt, even with the Name of Names.
